Exceeding Recommended HP?????

Hi Guys,
My Zodiac Futura Fastroller is rated up to 30 hp. At the moment I have a lovely 20hp Yamaha 2 stroke. It goes really well and planes nicely however.......I need more. I've found a 35hp that's still within the 65kg limit of my transom. Can anyone tell me if the rotational force of a 35 will be too excessive?

Hi, i had the exact same question about a year ago and found it caused no problems at all. Insurance company are aware and more than happy providing it does not exceed transom weight and does not go above 35knts.

Mine is rated for a 25hp and i've gone to a 30hp.

Its been discussed a lot on here so put it into the search and see what comes up.

The other thing to remember is that sometime in the 1980s it became law to quote prop shaft horsepower rather than crank power, which was a favourite trick of our US cousins, hence there were some funny HPs floating around for a while as it became illegal to call your 60 a 60 when the prop only ever saw 55.3Hp...

Net result of that is that your 35 may be a lot closer to a 30 than you think - if it's old enough!

Hmmmm,
35 kts eh? I think this will get close. I'm going to get the other engine, 2 stroke Mariner, I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Generally, it's not so much the hp, but the weight. And trouble getting insurance.
