Console fit out
after getting the whole console polished up I've started to fit out with the top hatch first, I've set this to the starboard side where I'm fitting the battery and where the console attaches to the hogging rail for ease of access, this one wont have the dry bag in it as they are a pain to take out to get at the battery.
next i fitted the floor in glassing underneath with 50 mm glass tape.

Got all three hatches fitted plus a small stash compartment under the floor for odds and sods.
for info these are kayak hatches off eBay around a tenner each with screws and gasket so no sika required.

Looking good Jeff.
I'm assuming it's quite heavy. What takes the weight, the hogging rail, the deck, tube, or is it spread over all three?

cheers guys.
yes Steve hogging rail at the top then the weight rests on the tube held down with a good buggee to the floor. I've not weighed it but no heavier than 5llb of spuds my best guess.
the hogging rail is well capable as its got the lifelines attached so you pull yourself back in the boat

It annoys me when some manufacturers don’t use tinned cables, some do, some don’t. At least if you use tinned cable & heatshrink connectors, you’ll reduce your chances of failures in the future.

Yea me too the standard horizon isn't tinned of course it links to the lowrance plotter which is and the Suzuki charging cable isn't. I did use resin shrink blanks on the other system but ran out so I'll silicon grease the joint and shrink wrap. I'll leave some spare cable too just in case not ideal because it stops neatness, to be fair the other console showed no signs of corrosion apart from the -ve on the battery bit of grease will sort that.

got all the wiring done as far as i can waiting for the tinned wire still, so I've took the mesh pocket off and widened the opening an inch so i can get my fat hands in better and fitted the foam edging strip which is u shaped and fits 3-6mm thick edges.
I've done the same with the bottom edge where it meets the tube but I've not glued it yet I'm leaving it over night to get memory of the shape especially on the corners i don't want to cut it at that point where it rises a bit so i will glue it and clamp so it looks neat if i have to.

finished the wiring off couldnt wait for the wire so ive soldered the crimps on all connections and shrink wrapped.
finished gluing the foam edging too, next is to fit out on the boat when the weather picks up.
ive attached my wiring diagram if it helps i keep one on the boat laminated so its easy to find wires if i get a problem.

started the fitting of the console onto the boat i knew the seat rail would make the bottom of the console stand off 5mm but the foam edging strip would go somewhere to accommodating the 5mm bead. fitting it dry on the boat it wasn't an issue the tube gives too so happy days. i could have cut it but whilst playing about i thought why not use the rail to secure the console, i have two bolts securing it on the hogging rail which will be flat not at the 30 degree angle ish that it is normally, the bolts will keep it in position at the centre top of the tube fixed through the console floor. the seat rail fixings will be bolted to the side wall of the console inside out of sight they will pull the console into the tube which will have a tendency to push the console up where then the hogging rail bolts will stop it pushing the console too far over the side. i looked on tinter web for some fixings but could see nothing that would do the job so i had two stainless barrel screws one end on each had an eye so i cut through the eye enough to slide over the seat rail web put a bit of plastic pipe in the same way to stop chafe on the web. i might no need the buggee to the floor i hope which will make it look better.

It all looks very good.
All the wiring on my Yanmar was non-tinned and all the wiring that I'd added up to it was tinned. In the end and in a moment of madness I re-wired the engine with tinned cable. It's an older non-electronic engine so other than the starter / charging circuit and a few sensors, there's not much to it.
One comment about your wiring diagram - do you have a fuse in the positive feed from the battery to the fuse box? You might not need it if the distance in negligible.

To be fair guy I think rewireing the engine is a good move for you my console is very small the longest wire is less that 300mm every wire is insulated right up to the terminal screw so not a big corrosion problem if it was I'd cut back and reterminate left a bit of spare wire.
Main fuse I've left out I did have a 20 amp on the last one in the positive leg but since each individual item is fused to manufacturers spec I though I'd not bother not a big one to stick it in if I change my mind.
