You not been out yet Jeff ?
Im hoping our Nippy leader will allow you in Scotland after the 15th July ..perhaps we can tie up again if you get time to come up this way.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/d...eopen-july-15/
I have managed out a few times lately but there are a few cranks about up this neck of the wood that think they could get covid from a wee old boater .. so presume its ok to key the side of your car ... I keep well away from the popular spots and go stealth in the wee F Rib ..and no one has complained as they don’t see me

Aspen fuel
so aspen fuel it is. for info there's two types four & two stroke the two stroke has oil at 50-1 mixed i bought the four stroke and mixed quicksilver outboard oil to be safe, cost for 5 ltrs is £19.50 & 19.95 comes in a plastic container.
also i bought a generator some 10/11 years ago and only ran it for 4 hours then left it in the back of the shed as a backup for power cuts, so one of the covid jobs was to drain the old fuel off put some new in and fire her up which she did no problems [wouldnt start with the old fuel] two pics of the old fuel good job i didnt need it.
thats it for now.

just a bit of info, i bought a cover in black with a silver coating internal which has rubbed off on to my boat looks sh-t but it does come off with everbuild PVC cleaner for windows not a job i wanted but there it is. anyway i sent terry at excel a mail and a few pics didnt get back to me so rang him today, no quibble refunded my dosh and apologised. if anyone has bought one i would turn it inside out to prevent the work unless i was just unlucky.

a few pics of the boat, its took 2 days to clean with the PVC cleaner with a towelling cloth to get right down into the dimples of the fabric, nothing else worked [hope your ears were burning terry]once done i washed down with fairy liquid and hose pipe dried it off then coated with 303 uv guard. i ordered a ducksback cover for £75 delivered size 3 rib cover its a bit long but i needed the width so the bow has a bit spare, for the money it's made well with a reflective surface, plenty of tie downs too although the straps go under the trailer which i dont like so a mod at some point to use the hooks i have on the trailer [saves me getting down on the floor with my arthritic knees]

Hey Jeff, nice thread - interesting to me as I just got a HD435 (in black!) - my first boat so am on multiple learning curves but loving it.
Can I ask what order you in stalled the stringers? There was very little in the manual - put them (from bow to stern) long/short/longest. It seems to work but there's a sort of bend between floorboards 3 and 4...
Confusing as they are three different lengths - 80, 85 & 50cm

I got a cover too BTW, and it's way less siver coloured than yours... more like a dark silver - so far no marks on the boat but a bit of leakage on the seam!!

Thanks for looking at that Jeff - that great to know... even better that they built it for you and we know that that is likely correct!
Your cover looks bigger then mine, I guess be able to cover the console... mine was the £90 one 'overall cover 435' from their site.
Just waiting for the wheels - am looking forward to getting out on it!

So managed to get out at the week end the plan was a circum nav of mull originally but the weather had other plans so I still arranged to meet grey gurnard and a couple of his friends the plan changed to where we could get with the weather Windows allowing so it was loch etive and wild camp.
First impressions of the boat were good a smoother ride than the Mercury, top speed with all my camping kit and 65 ltrs of fuel 8 ltrs of water was 18 knots max I'm happy with that running a 10 1/4 x 10 prop. I was suffering cavitation in the swell quite badly as you know I lifted the engine 40 MM so the cav plate is level with the keel what I did notice is that the tube cones are well high at speed being so far back I think it throws the engine height out I tried different trim positions I knew wouldn't work but worth a go so I'm going to drop the engine down on to the transom a bit more drag but not going to be a game stopper. Fuel consumption much the same at 2.77 miles /litre.
As a word of warning the tarp clamps don't hold the seat if you lean on it to lift the engine slipping badly it might be the 303 I've used stopping them gripping, Donny has drilled his and inserted a couple of shackles I will follow his lead to be safe. The clamps however work well to hold kit in place. All in it was well worth the change most of my set up works well some minor changes to do to fine tune it but all in well happy.

Hi Jeff ..here are a few photos of our adventure together and a reminder of your Excel Vanguard’s first voyage.
Passing Oban on a grey day
Boats sheltered in the garage
A view of our surroundings
From running beside you ... the Excel went great ..and as always it was a pleasure to meet up with you. Hopefully next time the weather will allow a more exposed adventure ..but even the sheltered waters of Loch Etive were rough enough ...
The west coast of Mull would have been suicidal at the weekend .. next time will be better though !!!
I can post the full video of your first trip in the Excel once its put together ...
