Fantastic D Class spotted

Shame it's not a Y (which I'm after) but this is a beautiful looking and really original D - if only I had the space...

Saw that on Ebay..... It's unusual to still have the RNLI livery on it (even with the 'Ex' prefix......the RNLI don't really like it to remain on /it's usually removed by them before sale......)

My D Class still had its service number as well as all its kit including the anchor box /floor mat etc.....mine was an ex publicity boat, might be the case here?

When mine was advertised (in a sorry state before we bought it) it was 'spotted' by someone who notified Poole who contacted the advertiser as they were concerned it may have been stolen (due to the lettering being in place etc)......thankfully it was all verified as okay in the end....

At least it is an ex rnli boat ,the amount of boats on fleabay that are advertised as ex rnli and are not is a joke ,last year someone had a on there for sale a Campari inflatable boat as ex rnli .

Think the biggest worry for the institution is that if an incident/accident occoured and a boat carrying the words RNLi or lifeboat was nearby and they dident help out it could look bad to an outsider/press /media that an Rnli boat was on scene but did nothing to help .

another reason why you wont get RNli crew kit/helmets or lifejackets,, on the secondhand market, with the exception of dry suits but the logo should have been removed , if you do then its probely nicked as they are shredded after they are sent back to base .
as a matter of intrest Dan they did have a new D class and trailer stolen whilst on route from base to a station a few years back and i dont think it ever turned up .

Martin, totally agree - it's like driving round in an ex-police car with the lights and 'POLICE' decals still left on - a bad idea all round!

Fantastic d class

My Atlantic also came with much of the RNLI kit, radio, righting bag, etc. and whatever I do it will still look like an RNLI vessel whether it has the letters on it or not.

I am intending however to keep the service number and name to retain the history.

If you buy em direct from the RNLI as he probably has you'll pay £900.
Have you tried giving Poole a ring, they usually have a few kicking about?

See post #5 (again! ) - I'm in contact with the RNLI disposals officer - I'm on the list but they are not disposing of any more this year, he last sold one this summer at £800.

They normally sell them for £800 anyway and have just disposed of a batch this summer.

I was in talks with Adrian at Poole RNLI but the batch of 20 was just too many to have in stock and it didn't seem that they wanted to split.

I was also looking at a batch of 20 Yam 75hp 2 strokes 2006 models but they needed £18,000 for them without controls (and oil tanks disconnected). A well known dealer in Lancashire buys them up in huge quantity batches (evinrudes too) and knocks them out for £2995 each! Nice little earner

I know.... See post 5

The engines get offered to other SAR facilities first, then to crew and staff only then can a certain dealer up north knock em out at a profit.
The yam 75's usually go for £2000 including controls and alloy prop, age dependent.
