These work very well and protect the tubes too.

For the number of times we sibbers will use fenders I think Orwell boys Lidl "fenders" are more than adequate. I got some the other day taped them round a 5ltr paint tin, heated them up with a hot air gun and left them to cool. I now have a couple of fenders with a permanent curve which fit the tubes. Don't know if I'll ever use them, but they will be in a dry bag just case.
Think if I had a rib, I'd want something a bit more substantial.

Make good padding for the old backside as well.
Although I think it home bargains I got that fitted inside the seat cushion bag.

Found we needed the end weighted a bit in the winds for a fender..

But admittedly I did buy a couple of the articulated ones off a guy on ebay.

Good plan. I bought a couple sets last night, as well as some £5.99 garden tools that are probably made from chocolate .

It just so happens I bought a hot air gun from Lidl the other day as well. Probably made out of marzipan.

I bought that heat gun a while back to replace an old Bosch. It works great as far as heat is concerned but it has this annoying feature where it doesn't actually turn off when you switch it "Off". It runs the motor until it decides it's cool enough and then shuts down itself. I absolutely hate this feature so I just went and bought another Bosch.

Never really used them much before, but did have good use of fenders on our last trip Steve.
The floating dock had rusty and sharp rabbit wire kind of stuff, and we sat lower than the hard boats around us so the fenders helped stop the tubes getting scratched to bits.
Then we never noticed a metal ring just beneath the surface of the water, which the lower tube had been rubbing against for a stormy couple of days.
I think without the fancy deeper fenders we had there might have been quite a bit of damage.
Saying that......a couple of big coke bottles filled with expanding foam would maybe do the same job I suppose.

Is that you stealing other people’s brilliant mods pd?

Could be a third use to start a camp fire if the wood is a bit damp….

I just don’t understand why that fantastic idea didn’t catch on

Big thanks to Orwell Boy

I was on Windermere yesterday, had a great day, I'll post a short video when I get the chance. Shortly after launching Diane needed a comfort break. Being close to Bowness I stopped off at the visitor pontoon, moored up and whilst waiting thought I'll try OB's fenders. Thank goodness I did, a bolt head, which I hadn't seen, was sticking out of the pontoon right at tube level, I think it could have easily torn through the tubes (see pic).
The other pics show the permanent curve I've managed to put in the "fenders" and where I've weighted the bottom of them to stop them blowing in the wind (thanks Bron)

Close call, I've never used fenders so I'm super wary. Have hung a foam buoyancy aid over though in extreme circumstances.

Sealed one end with hot glue, filled with sand and sealed the other end. Weighs them down nicely.
