Agreed-it doesn't sound great. However, while it's not as bad as it's been painted, someone who's unused to it can be a bit daunted by it-specially at bridge lifting times. Think how often you need to use the Colregs anywhere else compared with coming in/out of Poole at slack water.

It is-I think once you get out of the harbour mouth on a calm day it's probably the best place for it on the South coast.

Peter that's a very kind offer, thank you. I'm unsure of the time we'll be getting down there though as we've got a house move to sort out first thing in the morning!

Would be hoping to arrive before 2. I'll be unloading from a clapped out 02 reg blue vectra if you're about!

Just got back from Poole. Had 2 trips out, a short one around Brownsea on Friday and a slightly longer one down to Bournemouth pier today.

Today was much busier! Managed fine though with no scary moments. Got a bit choppy for my little SIB down towards the pier.

Thanks for the tips.

Second trip out in the harbour yesterday.

Managed to get stuck in mud in the Wareham Channel, had to wait 90 mins for the tide to lift us out again. I stupidly ventured out from between the buoys and the outboard started kicking up mud. Called harbour control to let them know and then just had to sit and birdwatch for a bit!

Other than that the harbour on the way back around Poole quay was really too choppy for a small SIB and not much fun. We took on a fair bit of water from the bow ploughing into waves even at low speed. Is there a better way to deal with the waves in these sort of conditions?

This is round the back of Brownsea, it always catches a few out! This is my mate Ben walking around, he did'nt believe me it was as shallow as I said it was.

You're lucky you got him back. You'd never have got him out if he'd sunk in the mud in those waders

It does get very shallow around there!

And last year, we discovered that the stakes between Brownsea and Furzey don't appear to mark the deepest water either - we took some soundings from the dinghy and the deepest water seemed to be about 20m further towards Brownsea!

The channel is definately nearer Brownsea than the stakes lol

Its actually sandy round those parts, so not too bad for getting stuck
