First trip to the isle of wight

I moored at Bucklands Hard for 2 nights which cost £55 including use of the slipway. One day I went to Cowes on the Isle of Wight and along the river Medina. On another day I went along the coast to Bournemouth. It was lovely and calm except for the currents near the needles. I saw my first dolphin (or porpoise) from my boat but didn't get a photo. I would like to do a lap of the Isle of Wight some time in really calm conditions

Hi essex, if you only caught a glimpse and there was only one, it was probably a porpoise.
When you say "moored", do you mean tied to the visitor's pontoon? £55 for two nights, that seems very expensive for a T38 sib.

Yes probably a porpoise. I want dolphins swimming with the boat one day.
The mooring was at the end of pontoons with big boats. They didn't offer me on the pontoon with the dingies. The 55 included 20 slipway fee which I didn't think was bad. It's a 3 hour drive from where I live. I don't use a trailer and was staying overnight. I am happy to pay to not have to inflate, launch, deflate each day solo. Do you know of cheaper moorings nearby?

If you want dolphins go to New Quay in Wales. Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but spend a couple of days there and the likely hood is you will see dolphins.
I have only launched once from Bucklers a few years ago, think it was £12 or £15, so it's gone up quite a bit. I don't know of any where else down there to launch. Try doing a search on here or post a question.

Hi essex, in post #5 I mentioned dolphins at New Quay Wales.
Take a look on BBC iplayer, BBC2, Chris and Meg's Wild Summer.
Shows you the harbour/beach where you launch from and how close the dolphins usually are.

How big an engine do you have and what did you do to secure the boat overnight please? Was the pontoon behind locked gates etc?
