Folding SIB display stickers

I have registered my SIB to use on lake windermere in the lake district. To use the boat you have to display registration number stickers on both sides. Trouble is the stickers aren't really designed for SIBS and crease and fall off after deflating and folding.

Any ideas of SIB proof stickers or other methods? dont really want to stencil onto the tubes in case I want to sell in future.

Thanks
Ben

A piece of painted plywood with the stickers stuck on can be tied onto the grab line ropes on either side to show the numbers it can then be removed for packing up.

What he said - or you could get (car type) number plates made up (lots of guys on eBay do them cheap in various non official sizes and shapes).

Do PVC stickers cope better with deflating, folding and inflating?

Phone them & ask. I hope they cope with folding, as that is what is going to happen to mine!

The size & type font for the lakes is very specific, as is the placement. Letters have to be 6"high and displayed on either side. They won't go on an engine hood unless its a very big engine & vehicle registration plates dont comply, transom mount isnt acceptable either. Flat boards hung over the sides are almost the only way to get numbers onto a smaller rib or sib unless you are happy to stencil the tubes

Gave them a call below and as you say they recommend hanging a display board either side of the SIB.

I use a display board. Haven't had any issues.

it's better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

I was told to get a display board — they even sell them in the right size.

I haven't had luck with the pvc "license plate" on my small dinghy. Every time it's folded it gets worse. The inflatable I have now came with plastic boards you tie to the sides. They are a pain because the wind blows them around if you can't tie them down. Mine just hung over the side, tied from the top.
The best solution for me is a stencil kit with paint made for hypalon/pvc. Takes some time to make it not look like a 5 year old painted it but the tip from a pro was to use a black sharpie to outline the stencil then paint the inside.

In the us these plastic glue on mounts have some flexibility but firm enough to hold the stickers.

if I remember correctly, when I first register our boat the numbers were included in the £30 fee.... £15 each year after that. but you had to find your own board or buy one off them.
If like I have, lost one board.. you then can buy them from the wardens office.

The boards now have a double use..... numbers for Loch Lomond are on the other side.

Send a message via Skype™ to CJL
You would have thought they could have come up with one number for all the waterways by now!

I have used Floor Vinyl that has some felt like white stuff on the underside. Painted Black Letters/Numbers at correct height/width onto the white felt and tied down similar to Beamisken above.

I'd go with ply boards with short bits of rope and snap carabiners on the ends to clip onto the carry rope/handles.

I got some hard plastic backing boards cut from the sign maker at work (didnt tell him the use!) and drilled a couple of rope holes for fixings. They should do the job.

To be honest, I cant see me using them on windermere often. The National Trust have said there are no powered launches permitted from their banks (even an inflatable sib which is built on the shore) and the ferry nab prices including parking are outrageous for a small sib.

probably take it up to coniston, derwent water and ullswater more often.
