So the truck is back, just in time for the holiday thank goodness. It really feels different in a good way. It's supprising how accustomed you become to something deteriorating over a period of time and not notice how bad it had become.
Fowey on Thursday, on the water Friday, really looking forward to it.

I'm not suprised they are back there as I think the passengers did spend quite a bit. I think Easycruise have stopped trading so the Orange blot on the horizon won't appear anymore.
Cordon off a portion of that harbour and you not left with much!
Did you take a walk upto the Hotel Splendido and take out a 2nd mortgage so you could buy a G&T?

Nah! We walked from Sestre Levante, dodged the hoardes of Americans off the cruise ship. Watched the “Beautiful People “ paying homage to Dolce & Gabana. Had the best ice cream ever & then caught the water bus back to Sestre. Like most of the tourist traps, Mont StMichel/Cinque Terre etc, it’s a place better regarded from a distance.

In the case of Fowey and our personal view given we went during the school hols we found the town better viewed from the boat. If we'd stayed without boat the constant pressure of people in the narrow streets would have worn us down, but with your own water taxi it was great.

Whenever practical we always try and holiday outwith the school holidays.
We once made the mistake of visiting St Ives during the first week of the school holidays, to put it bluntly, it was horrible. Crowds of people meandering along and banging into one another without a word of apology We escaped to Hayle, which was much more civilised.
I'm hoping that Fowey should be relatively quiet at this time of year, just the old gits like me and a few coach loads of the blue rinse set.

We laughed when out on Monday because the schools had started back so rather than the entitled sailing kids rushing about the front on e-scooters in their wetsuits it was all the walking stick/frame brigade asking the way to the nearest cafe.

I'm yet to catch anything big enough to actually eat. Mackerel the size of sprats and a pollock the size of a pilchard, that's been the extent of my fishing capabilities so far!
I would even know how to go about catching place, now cooking and eating them that's a different matter all together!

Unfortunately Trev and Al had to give it up, though they can be found hanging out there.

Fowey usually is. I avoid the place like herpes during regatta week ecause you're lucky not to end up with a damaged boat on any of the pontoons with the 'creative' mooring of some, but outside usual holiday season the place is heaven.

I did wonder as someone on Trustpilot recently said it had new owners and was better for it... and then Trev replied with a quick bitchy response. Trev was/is the Penmarlam representative on the Fowey Harbour Committee... I bet he livened up those meetings.
>>outside usual holiday season the place is heaven.
I would agree... with the car parked safely away for days at a time and the SIB as a water taxi it was an amazing place. I could have spent weeks and weeks there (although Mrs F prefers a place with the quieter feel of say Tayvallich). Hence huge anticipation for Steve's visit.

I shall give my honest, unbiased review of the Quay Cafe after we visit tomorrow.
Caravan pitched, trailer assembled, sib ready, two pints down and ready for a walk into Fowey.

That site is so well tucked away and nicely shady, I do remember its entrance off the "take your life in your hands" road.

Quick question, great high tide times on Saturday so intend to have lunch in The Ship at Lostwithiel, does it have a pontoon?

The Ship doesn't front the water directly and there is no pontoon but you can probably pull out on the grass adj the public car park. Watch the tide though as it dries very muddy all the way along that branch of the river.
