It's probably the one explication that I didn't want to hear. I poo-pooed that idea when Diane said it, now I've had to eat humble pie! Makes complete sense as there was absolutely no waves before the group or 3 or after it. They where bloody big though!

It does really make you feel good when you see them.

Another great day on the water, weather was a bit changeable, very hot and sunny one minute then windy and raining the next. We had planned to go to St Austell but the wind really picked up once we rounded Gribbin Head, probably F4 - F5 and 4-5 ft waves, so we turned back using the land to shelter us from the wind and headed to Lantic Bay where we spent some time walking on the beach. We then headed back to the Fowey river to have a wonder upstream with the incoming tide to Golant, called into the Fishermans Arms then onto Lerryn and have a drink at the Ship. Took lots of video, but here are a few stills from the day.

It was, it was deserted and lovely and sunny when I took that picture, but 15 mins later it pi55ed it down and we took shelter in a cave. It's one of the beaches at Lantic Bay that you can only reach by boat unless it's a very low tide.

Managed to get to Looe today, great day but it was a long way back in choppy seas!

Uploaded an unedited Sony Xperia short video of the first few days in Fowey. I'll post a full video when I'm home.

Is it an illusion that plays games with my mind, or does the sea actually become calmer late evening? For the past few days the sea has been quite choppy, no particular pattern to it, just choppy. However, come the evening it appears to be much calmer. I suppose it may be that we are sat outside a pub!

If it’s calm weather with no prevailing winds, the sun warms the land during the day, hot air rises off the land & causes on-shore sea breezes. When the sun goes down in the evening, the land cools, the breeze dies down, et voila, evening calm.

Yep and even inland the folks that display the earliest fragile vintage aircraft arrange evening displays because of the wind dropping away.

Last day out on the water so I spent a few hours this afternoon out fishing. It was really choppy with a stiff breeze so I stayed close to the mouth of the river Fowey. Within 30 mins I must have caught at least 10 mackerel, unfortunately nothing big enough to eat, but hey!, it's only the 3rd time I've been out and actually caught something. One day I will catch a mackerel big enough to BBQ.
All in all its been a good holiday and another great place to come boating.
Hopefully I've got enough video to show what a great place it is.

Loads of small mackerel about, we must have thrown 100+ back last week. Managed about 10 keepers in 3 hours, but they were very good.

Does loads of small mackerel this year mean loads of big mackerel next year?
Thank goodness I bought a couple of bream from Looe yesterday otherwise the BBQ would have been empty!

Dunno the answer to that one, there doesn’t seem to be a pattern.
