Fuel Tank Considerations

After lots of planning, researching, YouTube watching and reading here, we are finally off on our first 4 day sib trip to the west cost in a couple of weeks, and suddenly realised i hadn't thought of fuel and fuel tanks of all things

The volaire and the Suzuki 20 came with a standard 12 litre non gauge tank which will maybe do this trip along with a couple of small plastic jerrycans we can fill it with. And i do have a jiggle syphon thing I've never used too if need be.

But long term I am thinking down the lines of maybe another 12/24 litre tank with a gauge for a quick change over, and wondered the best value tanks you guys would recommend after seeing a huge difference in pricing in online shops, ebay etc

Oh and is suzuki connections the same as any other outboard brand.

Cheers for your thoughts.....Brian

For 15hp 2-stroke motors and 20hp 4-stroke I always felt more comfortable with a 25l tank as the main. I preferred the Quicksilver one with the integral gauge. They are a strong tank with a very strong outlet arrangement. I like the handle on top when they are in the boat. This is just the first link I picked, they might be cheaper elsewhere.

Then you can use either a 5l can or your 12l tank as the emergency reserve if on very long trips.

You can buy them with hose that is already fitted with a Suzuki end or just buy a Suzuki connector if they are a Mercury termination.

I have a 20 litre Milpro fuel bladder on the Volaire. It’s very boat friendly being soft & squishy. It’s also easy to gauge the remaining fuel as the bladder collapses as the fuel is used. It sits under the front thwart alongside the tube, so uses space that would normally be wasted. It’s good for around 80nm with the 20hp Suzuki. They occasionally pop up on eBay but they ain’t cheap.

Moeller makes space saving 22L tank specifically for dinghies, that fits in your bow.

I've just bought this one. No idea on quality as I'm working away so the significant other took delivery today.
My existing 12l will become the reserve tank plus a 5l can for when things really get out of hand.

Cheers guys I remember these bladders from past threads here like yours PD, but unless you can supply a family divorce solicitor after you guys force me to buy more stuff I better pass on them for now.

The quicksilvers look to have a good name and the Moeller shape looks interesting, but maybe just a bit on the pricey side....we will see. But both probably are worth that little bit extra long term.

That looks like good find Steve and mainly good reviews, I wouldn't expect brilliant quality at that price considering everything that is included.
But I was thinking I probably should have a back up pipe and bulb anyway for the future, so have emailed the seller with a couple of questions and will see what they say.

Everything eventually sorted out and hopefully no more hassles stopping us getting out the rest of this year.
We took the advice and also got some great info from a couple of others.
So first stop is next door to donnie (inland loch so no tides to worry about to run the OB in and get a bit more experience for a few of days). Then if time, tides and weather are on side, we might venture on to donnies home turf and have at least 1 night there.
Happy days!

Bloody hell Wazzajnr.....what have you done....thats the same ones as Steve pointed out...and you just made me push the button and buy one too!

Ahh, so it is, I missed Steve's post.
As I said, I haven't seen the quality yet but the delivery was spot on.
At that price you can't be bitten.

Currently looking into costs of importing boats from China so watch this space if you want to spend some more money!
