Garlieston Dumfries & Galloway

Hi, has anyone launched a SIB at Garlieston? Looking at Google maps it appears that the tide goes out a long, long way! Is the sand at the bottom of the slip hard? How many hours either side of HT is the slip usable?

Also has anyone stayed on Garlieston M&CC site?
Is there room to store a sib next to the caravan?

We had a week a few miles south at Portyerrock but as a land based holiday... always scoping the area re boating though. Visited Garlieston a few times and yes the tide goes a long way out, folks seemed to be OK walking on the sand/silt in the immediate harbour area. No idea what it would be hauling over the surface from further out. The camp site couldn't be better located for the waterfront (parts of the day!) and slipway. The Harbour Inn nearby is mostly well regarded. The only thing we found on a grey day it was a very grey location. Donny knows that area well from the boating perspective I think.

Thanks for the info David. I'm just scouting things out for late Sept early October. If the weather is decent Garlieston is within striking distance for a long weekend, and it's a place I've never been too.
Call me greedy, but I feel as though I've missed out on the early part of the year when the weather was decent due to work, and although I've got Fowey to look forward to in a couple of weeks, there's no harm in wanting more.
I think I spoilt myself for the first two years of sibbing when we did so much that I'm really missing it this year.

I have launched at Garlieston. You should be able to get in and out 2-3 hours on either side of high tide depending on the tide size. It is more like mud at the bottom of the slip so don't leave it too late. It would be a better bet to launch from Isle of Withorn where you can get in at any time.

Maybe worth checking out the lower end of the mull of Galloway, we recently launched at Drummore which is apparently all tides access although it is a beach launch its solid to drive on, was about half tide when we recovered. Plenty of campsites along the east coast of the mull at New England bay, Ardwell bay & one either side of Drummore.
Been a few years since I was in the whithorn area but i thought it didnt look a great area to launch. Its been a lot of years since I was that way so maybe I have the wrong picture in my head. The mull of Galloway looks well served with launches & caravan sites on the waterfront.

I was over there with the sib last month.

Look at Port Logan. You can park on the beach and launch straight out the back of your car.

There is a Launch at Sandshead.

East Tarbert Beach is very picturesque and easy.

There is also a good roadside launch at Kilstay.

Brighouse Bay holiday park has a slipway you can use. It's also quite a nice campsite.

Hope this helps.

I've stayed at the C&MH New England bay site Steve.
Loads of room to leave the sib set up on your pitch.
The beach is hard sand but there is a short steep pebble shoreline.
If it's too breezy for Luce bay, like has been said, it's a 2 mile trip to Logan on the other side and an easier launch but I've not done it yet just always gone from NEB
A trip to MOG lighthouse on a sunny day is a must too

Hi Scooby, forgot this is your neck of the woods.

Is this the slipway you mean?

How have you got on selling your Quicksilver?
