Gloucestershire / South West Sibbers?

Hello all

If anyone in or around the Gloucestershire area is into sibbing (or ribbing) - I'm wondering if people would be interested in planning occasional weekend jaunts to relatively nearby waters.

I imagine the trips could involve Cardiff Bay, Bristol Channel (when safe!) various rivers and canals, etc.

If anyone is around here and interested in a trip once in a while, drop me a line. I'm based in Cheltenham and am always up for a pint

James

Interesting how those from Gloucesterrshire consider the area the 'South West'. When, geographically, it's nearer the West Midlands. Is there something about Dudley or Wolverhampton that these guys don't want to be associated with?

I wouldn't mind doing the Cricklade to Lechlade on the Thames some time. Only sibs will make it though as it's very shallow and overgrown.

There is also some good camping on the Thames, here is a link for more info:

Loads of fun for Ribs and Sibs but all at a very slow speed

I'd say the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal is ripe for this kind of adventure, particularly as SIBs can wiggle under the bridges with little ado - although I still take issue that their red/green light usage is at at odds with the British Waterways manual.

If you're thinking about Cardiff Bay in terms of distance, don't forget Bristol Docks which has great launching albeit with a 6 mph limit, but with lots to see from a city point of view and a couple of nice pubs and bacon butty venues too!

I'm in Bridgwater in Somerset and would be up for either of these outings. Only place I have actually been out on mine is along the coast from Exmouth - never even considered Bristol - didn't know it was possible to take sibs out here - probably the nearest stretch of inland water to me as well so would deffo pop up there anytime.

Hi James,

I'd be interested (I'm also in Cheltenham)

I've just bought my 1st boat, a Honwave 3.5 (alu floor) last week

Not used it yet, still working out where to go for my first attempt!

cheers
Morty

Where you thinking of ? Weather's not looking great for it this weekend, but I might be being too pesimistic
