Have you tried the boat launch app? Assuming you have a smart phone that is. I found it very useful.

I intend to launch mine this weekend in Porthmadog, at the slip or at black rock.
You will need to register your craft, insure and most often pay to launch but launching
Can be included with the reg fees as I've just found out.

Damn, noticed a little oil leak from under the plastic cover on the leg, so it's in with Liverpool powerboats... Hope it's a simple fix, engine has done less than 10 hours...

When its fixed
Pop across to Anglesey
You can launch at Ty Calch (Chris's place) Caernarfon side of the Strait
You don't need to show any certs etc, parking space no probs too
You can launch at Menai Bridge , virtualy 24/7, parking space for 'launch vehicle'
Might need to search a bit up the road to park the ''tow truck'
Might have to pay for slipway use and show PB2 cert or similar if the Warden is about

Hi

I've been launching at Trearddur Bay at the top of the island. There's a launch fee for over 15hp but a good slip and you'll probably get away with not paying slip fees if you've just got transom wheels as the launch tractor is usually too busy launching bigger boats to notice everyone arriving on the beach.

Loads of bays to discover along the coast.

I agree with Kawasaki, Ty Calch is ideal to launch, loads to see & do, if you need any help/advice Chris is your man, and not too far to tow for your 1st trip out hopefully we will be there next weekend

Sounds ideal. Given this is my maiden voyage, if the weather is ok, where would you motor to for the day? I know Anglesey very well, but not the rest of north Wales coast line..
Also who takes their dog sibbing?

If you dont have any experience at all I would pop upto the Lakes for your 1st attempt. No tides to worry about and if it all goes wrong an easy row back to shore.

Park Foot Campsite on Ullswater do day launches for £5, you don't need to register the boat and there is no other fees involved. Its an easy drive straight up the M6 and takes about the same time to get to as the straits from Liverpool.

You can put the car right next to the water to launch and there is a huge car park for BBQ's, it even has quite a few benches to sit on.

launching at ty Calch is easy, just hand the dosh over to chris and he will do the rest for you depending on the weather, if it's nice go left towards Caernarfon bar and there is excellent cruising along the Anglesey coast. Or if it's not so kind, turn right and head down past Caernarfon towards the bridges and beyond, excellent cruising and plenty to look at. If you get to the bridges enjoy the ride through to Menai

There is a 10mph speed limit on the lake, however I don 't think there is even a wardens boat on there any more. The passenger steamers do about 18mph and dont seem to get stopped.

Be sensible and you will be fine, dont go fast near the shore or any other boats, keep an eye out for canoes, kayaks and kids inflatables.

We speed August Bank Holiday there every year, we ski, board and tube without issues.

Ullswater does have a warden and in the summer he is on the lake all weekend. I have seen him stop boats but not sure what the fine, if any is. The lake steamers travel at between 10 and 12mph so just over the speed limit.

I will be on the lake all this weekend running a RYA course and can say I never see anyone ski, board or tube.

We should all respect the lake by-laws, should we not?

Hi gridge, there is a channel between the bridges which should be used at low water and probably good practice to use it even at high water then you will never get caught out. Also better to go through with someone who has good knowledge of the straits and is used to going through the bridges.

We should respect bylaws in exactly the same way that the LDSPB respected the agreement to leave Windermere for fast watersports when they put speed limits on all the other lakes in the 70's.

I'm not advocating bad seamanship, but the lake is so empty, with care, a little speed will not cause any problems.

As I said in my original post, the trip boats do nearly 20mph !

Have they got a new boat on Ullswater ? The old green Rib with wheelhouse and Honda outboard is now on Windermere. I thought the wardens had abdicated responsibility for policing the speed limit ?
