After much consideration , I decided not to get the Nissan / Tohatsu for a few reasons . The first reason being I'm relatively young and fit , I feel for me at least 70LBs is a comfortable weight to carry . Now I understand that the Tohatsu is significantly lighter . However the weight savings comes at a cost in displacement . And in small engines a difference of 86cc's is huge. Since I am already used to the power of a 15 HP, for me at least, it would feel like a downgrade ... if I decided to go with the 9.8 . I've decided to focus on the bigger block 1993 + Johnson Evinrude 15HP to get the most power out of an outboard . One that I could comfortably carry weighing roughly 70 lbs.

Got the Engine Now to Order the Boat

Tohatsu 9.8 2 strokes are available and in stock from lots of places at about £2k, I’m sure that every charter/ferry company needs one……..just saying! 🤷

I have been looking at various videos of the Honwave T38 and reading loads. I see that the new one the IE3 does not have the rear sticking out tabs like the older ones.

I assume that these tabs were originally to help the boat get on the plane and was wondering if with a smaller 9.8 hp and the new IE3 without the tabs if getting on the plane might be an issue.

The tabs on the old model must have been their for a reason

It wouldn't cross my mind as a problem.

You could consider further as they decided to remove the tabs there must have been good reason for that decision and they must have considered the resulting performance.
