Hello

Hi all My name is Matt just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, I have been a lurker for a long time now and finally decided to register. I have a honwave t38 air floor that I use with the family mainly on the humber and along the coast but hoping to make Scotland this year inspired by Donnys videos. I currently have three outboards a mariner 10, mariner 25 and a parsun 3.6 aux ( go easy) all 2 smokers. I am working abroad at the moment but home in 3 weeks and can't wait to get out this year. Love the forum some great knowledge on here.

Take care and happy sibbing

Regards Matt

Welcome Matt! I am also new to the site. Many knowledgeable sibers here that are willing to guide and assist. I am in California so not much use to your side of the pond in term of locations and waters in GB. Enjoy the site!

Hi Matt and welcome.

Do try and make Scotland if you can. Family circumstance and Covid have kept us away for a few years now but get up to the west coast and it's a sibbers dream.

Are you using a trailer or a daily set up?

David

Hi Fenlander

I do have a trailer that I can use but it needs a bit of work, I stripped it down last year for new hardware amd paint so its a bit of a project at the moment. I often just chuck it all in the boot of the car if there are not many of us going out on the boat though . I have a caravan thats not been utilised much lately so might put the boat in there for a Scotland trip. I would also like to go to ulswater maybe for a day trip as I am not sure if any camp sites will be open late February early March time.

Hi Matt, and welcome to the forum.

Park Foot at Pooley Bridge, Ulleswater will probably be open mid Feb. Failing that the C&CC site at Keswick is open all year, as us the C&CC site at Braithwaite both about 20 mins from Ulleswater.
Derwent water, Keswick, is good for a few hours, but it is small and shallow.

Hi Matt
If you are looking to go camping on Ullswater I can recommend Waterside House Campsite. Opens on the 18th March and if you have launch wheels you can launch your boat onto the lake. I stayed there last year with my Honwave 3.2 and had a great time on the lake.

I can recommend Highfield Holidays at Benderloch, near Oban if you're bringing the caravan up - note it's not open until April though.

Good touring site with connections to the nearby Tralee holiday park which has it's own slipway onto Ardmucknish Bay which you are permitted to use, accessible beyond the site's security code protected barrier.

Being fairly new to sibbing too, it will be a first taking it caravaning this year. I've got a 3 night stopover at loch Linnhe then onto Morvich for 4 more for Skye. Anyone know of an easy launch site whilst up at Morvich/Skye?
Thanks

Hi Tommy,

Stayed at Morvich last year. Good site, lots of hill walking (if you're into walking!) and brilliant area for boating. Closest place to launch is Dornie. There are 2 slips at Dornie, one by the village hall usable at nearly all tides (really rough, thats where I snapped my tansom wheels) the other is on the opposite side of the loch near the Dornie Inn Hotel, smooth concrete but can't be used at low tide.
Cheapest fuel was approx 1 Mile from the site towards Lochalsh or the co-op on Skye.

Few vids and threads of our trip.

Hi Tommy C

Steve will give you the lowdown on Morvich as he went there last year.. plenty places to launch..nearest being the wee slip at Kintail Lodge or up by the Dornie bridge. Skye has many places too..so start at the slipway at Kyleakin ..and they are all free :-D

Loch Linnhe is a big place with plenty access too..so you would need to say where you are stopping at ..is it the campsite at Bunree ? If so just go in off the beach there..watch the tide flow at corran ferry though ..it can suck you in then blow you out if you don’t know about it.

Bunree at onich. I've been there before many years ago and I fished from the shore but can't remember how stoney the beach was so don't know whether I'll get the sib in from the site. Is there anywhere nearby to there that yo know?
Thanks

Nearest slipways are ..

Public slipway at Strontian its free ..so take the Corran Ferry..drive through Glen Tarbet and its there on Loch Sunart which is a stunning sheltered sea loch around 10 miles from Onich.

Or drive to Glencoe Boat club .. talk nicely to any members you see and they will let you use their slipway if you put a small donation in their box on the wall..it gives access to Loch Leven and is 6 miles from your campsite

You could use the old ferry slipway on the north of Ballachullish bridge but I would not recommend it unless you are used to launching into a strong tide which flows past it

Last time I was at Bunree I launched my canoe, big 3 person Old Town, no problem launching from the "beach" with a trolley. I've not launched a SIB on Loch Leven but I have launched a GP14 at Ballachulish Marina it was free but that was about 15 years ago.
