I’m running down the numbers and comparing the Yamaha F25 and the Suzuki DF25. Lighter weight vs smoother idle/low speed operation seems to be the general consensus between the two. It’s a 13’9” boat…and being the Grand Raid it is rated up to 50hp…but 25hp should be perfect for my needs
I've read comments from several users that they are very happy with their new Yamaha F25, but I always wonder if it is because they haven't tried a 3-cyl engine like Suzuki DF25A or Tohatsu MFS25? I mean I really like my 2-cyl Suzuki DF20A but like any 2-cyl 4-stroke it vibrates. The DF25A I have and the Tohatsu MFS25B I used to have are much smoother engines. They sound better too.

Given the small weight difference between a Yamaha F25, Suzuki DF25A and Tohatsu MFS25 I don't see why anyone would buy the F25. But I haven't had a chance to try one myself so... Another big plus for the 3-cyl Suzuki and Tohatsu is that they can be upgraded to 30 hp. For about 300€ for the DF25A.

Having said all that about how I like the smooth 3-cyl 4-strokes I must admit that for my 3.8m Zodiac Futura the Suzuki DF20A is the most impressive portable engine. It performs pretty much the same as the DF25A, top speed is the same, it weighs much less and is less bulky. But not smooth...

So for me, the DF20A is a keeper and the DF25A needs and upgrade to 30 hp. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to keep it. Just my personal opinion. It all varies on the use case.

Before I bought my, now long departed, DF20A I was forewarned of the odd vibration but had I not been I'd have got the dealer to check it. It did seem odd after a very smooth 15hp 2-stroke to have the new 4-stroke suffering more vibration during some parts of the rev range.
