It may be being sold by ND as a rescue craft but it's quality is no better to any generic leisure sib that is being sold by other companies. As for the price "£1300", that is the same price as my leisure sib, Excel SD360, which is slightly better quality IMO.

This is an example of a "rescue" sib:-

Cost - approx £7000
I’m teaching MOB, Ferry glides and general power boat level 2 skills thank you

As for the craft - if it’s not S&R how come it is not available to the public to buy and only sold to military police and rescue services ?

Good news - my repair has held and we are back in action

That's a fairly common failure even on boats significantly more expensive than yours, to be fair.

Hopefully it's still holding air for you now and that'll be the end of it. A Dremel is a lifesaver when it comes to removing the old glue, if end up needing to do it again. I use the 952 style grind stone like a pencil and just draw it all off.

If you don't have a Dremel, heat up the area with a heatgun before using MEK/Acetone. It makes a big difference.

Thought I'd do some mods to Redneck today to improve the quality and make it more desirable if I ever come to sell it.

What do you guys think?

Well it’s 50-50… either the quality has been increased or at any moment a valve may fly off.

I don’t do things by halves. The repair has held up for the night and has held up sitting out in the Sun so I’m pretty confident that the glue used in the manufacturing process was either compromised or not the correct glue.

Not doubting your repair… I was referring to Steve upgrading his SIB to a rescue craft.

Not sure I'll make it permanent David, think I may be restricting the market I could sell it on to.

You could stick it on eBay with all those “ex-RNLI” orange boats that have never been anywhere near the RNLI.
On a side note, my 4 year old “Rescue” Excel Volaire has just been swapped out for a brand new boat under warranty by Excel. No quibbles or argument. But then again, the boat did come with a 5 year warranty & I am the original purchaser.

Did you swap it for an "orange" one PD?

We've been on the water with mostly grey SIBs for well over a decade and no-one has ever wanted rescue from a grey boat.... they all wave you past waiting for an orange one.

Sorry to tell you PD, but I think the quality may be affected because it's grey even if you put red S&R stickers on it.
It's not orange and black, or even red and black, which fades to orange after a while so it's nearly the same as orange and black.
The other thing is that Excel sell sibs to the public and don't restrict sales to military, police etc so the quality can't be any good, bit foolish of them to give a 5 year guarantee.

Grey is not generally selected by the rescue services as it is known to be slower than an identical craft in Red (aka full strength Orange).

Men in Grey boats are often the opposite to the Rescue Services in the sense that instead of you being ####ed before they arrive, you're proper ####ed up when they leave.

Who doesn’t love a bit of “Mil Spec, Tactical, Special Ops” grey? It’ll be a Paracord Survival bracelet next…

Anyway... seriously... as I don't like to be (too) unkind...

If I were after a 3.2m personal rescue boat I'd head over to those nice folks at Boatworld and buy this. A bargain at £850 with a 3yr warranty and half in the right colour too.

Not wishing to rain on anyone's parade (especially OP who is in Sardinia), but if you want the genuine article then Zodiac MilPro ZMSR-380 would be on my shopping list.

This is from 2016, so now 7 years old and still commands £4,200 price which gives you some idea of what they cost new from the factory which I think is around the £8k mark.

https://uk.topboats.com/portugal/bar...ilpro-zmsr-380

Anyway - hope the repair holds and the weather is great.
