'Honawave'on Ebay Heads Up

Just done a 100 mile trip to look at this Sib on Ebay

I had asked questions before hand about condition and if it had any sun damage, to be told it was fine.

Arrived to be faced with possibly the worst Honwave I have seen in a long time and it had a better sun tan than Madge off 'Benidorm' . The front panel especially was starting to delaminate it was that bad.

It might be worth a hundred or so if you are willing to completely patch the bow and sort out the rubbing strakes.

I have got no axe to grind, just naffed off with the small minority of people who try and sell stuff on ebay without giving accurate information and I dont want any Ribneters to be caught out with a high bid.

It's always a bad sign when they spell the name incorrectly even though its emblazoned across the boat!

Sorry to hear you had a wasted journey - wary of this and with the price of fuel now best to ask for close up hi-res pics before travelling.

I asked a lot of questions, got told it was just mud because they live on the estuary and it had just been recovered from the water, but boat was in good condition.

Not many boats round my neck of the woods, sometimes you just have to take a punt.

I'll never understand the mentality of someone who puts a clearly 'unwashed and uncared for' item like this on ebay with a starting price at £300! Surely the idea of an auction is to build desire with two, or more, people who are extremely interested and watch them try and outbid each other???

Give it a scrub-up, describe it accurately (meaning flaws an' all) and start the auction at 99p. Simples.

I always start auction prices at the minimum I will accept for an item, nowt worse than 99p auctions with ridiculous reserves, or those who pull an item before the end of the auction.

Have to admit that Honwave looks in pretty bad condition.

I would say he is a small time dealer judging from the photo;

1. Home/garden shot of the boat for sale.

2. rear end of second boat in the photo.

He is more than likely buying cheaply and knocking them out on ebay, just click on "see other items"

Agree its bad to pull the auction, usually by those who are delusional about their item's value. The only way to go is 99p, no reserve, and let the auction run. If the item has been well listed, trust the market to decide its value.

Personally I don't like auctions that start at 99p. The starting bid should be in the ball park of what it's worth. Can't be arsed placing silly little bids on something that will eventually go for hundreds of pounds.

I have found that listing high value items at 99p no reserve results in a higher final price than listing with a sensible starting price. Most ebay buyers like a low starting price.

I always find that low starts get more attention and ultimately more/higher bids.
They are free to list too!
