Honda T40AE - transom height?

Would you know the transom height, from the top where the engine bracket sits, to the bottom of the transom (projected on the vertical level, not along the transom, otherwise I will need the transom angle and multiply its cosine with the transom length measured along the transom).
I am asking because I have to select launching wheels that allow enough clearance so the engine does not touch the ground.

Hello and welcome to the forum. When using transom wheels most folks tilt the outboard up so even the shortest wheels are OK. Having said that I like and always use taller ones. Another issue to consider is making sure the transom wheel tyres don't rub on the bottom of the boat.

I have to know if the wheels I have in mind that lift the boat by 300 mm provide enough clearance. For that to be the case, the transom height must be at least 408 mm.
Do you know if it is?

I don’t but there are a couple of members on here with that model and they might just see the query.

Is there a specific reason why you need to have the outboard in the fully down position while the SIB's on transom wheels?

Probably not, but if transom wheels are deeper than motor when deployed you can power up to the shore until wheels hit terra firma. Bleedin useful if beaching in any kind of surf.

Fens got a good point about also making sure there is clearance underneath as the cheapo ones I bought have now loosened off and maybe bent a little, and have started to rub the bottom of the sib.

Short term I’ve just put on the famous yellow wheelbarrow wheels which have a slightly smaller diameter with the added bonus of no air within to deploy against.

Long term there are some wheels (seamax a popular choice here if you do a search) which are adjustable which might suite if need be.

But I personally would still tilt the OB higher than the bottom of the tubes anyway, just in case the wheels fail and it bounces off the ground.
I think it was Steve or Pikey Dave that happened too?

Thanks Brin, I'd forgotten that traumatic experience!

I had 49cm Wheeleez on my former 4.2m Zodiac that allowed the motor to stay down and could power up the beach in surf as Chipko suggests. I don't believe you can buy wheels that have that much height.

Otherwise I am a fan of Beachmaster wheels. So easy to deploy and stow.

Don’t mention it…what are friends for

Forgot about you videos of that trip you had….just having a look through them and Donny’s again for inspiration for the next trip.

No mishaps on our latest trip, except we did really test out the weight/power limits of both sib and ob in less than ideal conditions, (probably over max weight capacity to be honest)

First time we have been bothered with any kind of air bubbles with the Volaire floor and the Suzuki 20hp, but was really quite noticeable fully loaded and battling wind and short chop. Couldn’t get on the plain either on 1 day which didn’t help, but could hear and feel the air bubbles going through under the floor.

But got out on the water 3 days out of 4, so not a bad result for this time of year. Just too wild to go out to explore Donnys front garden the day we planned.
