Honwave 3.8 performance

Gents, I'm looking for a bit of advice, I have a Honwave 3.8 airdeck but I'm still looking for a decent short shaft motor for it. I do have a backup engine off my Raider 18 which is a 6HP Mariner four stroke longshaft. Any ideas on how this would perform on my SIB till I get a proper motor for it?

It will move it, but its not ideal.

Some long shafts really dont like starting if they are on short shaft transoms (I think its because of the increased back pressure on the exhaust).

However, if it starts, it will push the boat along at hull speed quite easily, it will have increased drag over a short shaft, but since you have no chance of planeing, its not an issue anyway.

Just one other thing, if you are used to running up the beach with the correct length shaft, its really easy to hit the bottom with the extra 5".

I wanted to have a play in it this weekend but if it really has no chance at all of planing I'm not sure I can be bothered dragging the engine off my other boat 😄
Maybe I should just keep searching....

It should plane one up, my 6hp Mariner would push my Zodiac 2.8m SIB to 14mph two up.

The issue as suggested may be the fact that it's a long shaft motor.

The only way really would be to try it, maybe on a different trim position it will work.

a friend of mine is selling a 20hp merc short shaft, was on his Aerotec and would work just as good on yours.
