Honwave Bow Handle Padding!

I’ve had a Honwave T32 for a number of years and feel like my fingers are being amputated every time I pull the boat down the beach using metal bow handle.

I’ve tried a few fixes, most recently foam pipe cladding (it disintegrates).

I was thinking some kind of rubber tape like a tennis racquet grip but I expect this would get wet and fall off at some point.

Has anyone found a way of adding padding around the meta handle that’s semi durable?

Hi Eric and welcome.

My solution to the problem.

15mm pipe with bicycle handle bar grips on the ends, 20mm webbing looped through the bow handle. Fit it when you need it and take it off when you don't.
Makes life so much easier.

Normally a Honwave 3.2 with an appropriate size outboard, transom wheels curving under the transom and modest kit placed near the transom until in the water wouldn't be heavy enough on the bow handle to hurt... or is it soft sand you have to drag through causing the issue?

I thought you always set up next to the water and don't use transom wheels or launch using a trailer.

Yes but we carry the T38 IE 2 10 - 100 m at times. Me on the front handle with the glove and here indoors on the rear handles or visa versa. Same issue just different situation

The Honwave ring is more comfy than many others imo, but you could cut a bicycle handlebar grip and fit that on it. Bar tape may be another option.

Thank you for all of the replies. Maybe I should have mentioned in my original post that it’s only an issue when dragging the boat longish distances but I often find myself doing this.

I think I have a plan now. I’m going to buy some 32mm plastic piping and push it into a bike grip. Then cut a channel through it so I can push it onto the Honwave.

Would it be an option to make a rope bridle that you could throw over your shoulder maybe?
