Hot temperatures bad for SIB?

I've left my boat rolled up in the back of my car (reasons) for nearly a fortnight, all through this warm weather.

Is it likely to have hurt it at all?

If the pvc in your car hasn't melted, I doubt your sib has come to any harm.

I was thinking more about seams etc. I know it's welded seams, so have no fear for those (I guess). But are there epoxied things on there too, handles etc. that might be problematic?

Well, nobody has said anything so I guess not lol.

Hi Croolis, think the seams on your sib will be glued not welded (Boatworld?) as will all the fittings (not epoxied)
Doubt it will come to any harm in a hot car. The time heat becomes a problem is when your sib is inflated and in hot sun. Unless it's fitted with a PRV the air inside can expand and split the seams.

The only thing I'd add is that folks have commented in the past that heat speeds up the process of PVC glue breaking down hence in very hot climates SIBs left out in the heat can have a much shorter life. But for the brief period of a UK summer I'd not worry about it.

Pinged an email to Boatworld. My one, "Air Deck 320" (in grey and red) has heat welded seams, they say.

Years ago I used to run a plastic welding shop in a factory for a couple of years . This was ultrasonic, not heat welding, and it was mostly solid clear styrenes, not soft stuff. So I'm hardly highly knowledgable, but the logic behind it in that place was - welding is cheaper and faster than glueing, with less fails. I wonder if that's true when making SIBs.

I am surprised that they don't mention welded seams on their website as it would be a massive USP for such a relatively inexpensive sib.

It is certainly true of Zodiac when they started welded seams on the tubes some 20+ years ago. The welded seams never failed in the life of the SIB, it was just the glued ones that eventually let go.
