how do you find the sib's max designe speed?

Hi all,
Just put a deposit on a honwave t32 airdeck with a tohatsu 4s, 9.8hp outboard. All was new earlier this year. Just having a look round at the different insurance companies and one of the questions is "max design speed". I have looked on the honda marine web site at the t32 and can't see anything about the max speed. Tells you what the max outboard hp/weight?.
Any ideas anyone?.

Thanks in advance.
Mark.
ps,
any idea what sort of speed I could expect on flat water?

IIRC so long as it was less than 30 (knots/mph?) none of the insurers I spoke to were that bothered.

would have thought you might be somewhere around 15 knots as top speed. To be on the safe side I'd tell them 20.

Cheers Polwart,
Looking at Noble marine insurance, any views on them?.
When they ask for the max design speed, do they mean how fast it would go with the outboard that you have or the actual max speed the boat has been tested to by honda?.

Mark

It would probably be best to check what they want with Noble. I think Noble post on here? I used them for a sailing dinghy in the past - but never had to claim so not sure how good they actually are...

Good levels of cover for reasonable money, not the cheapest, but in boats, good stuff never is

Thanks bigmuz,
Just done a quick quote on the noble site, can't answer all the questions, but on the basic info, looks about £72 fully comp. Thats to insure £3250. Quite good I thought.

Its who they are a part of / or use as underwriters that makes the difference IMO, because when it comes to a claim, you'll get less hassle and messing about ,.. which is Aviva, created from the merger of Commercial Union/General Accident/ Norwich Union

Boat speed etc

These posts have put my mind at rest...I insured with Noble Marine online, but had never heard of them.
The cost was £48 to insure £2,000 worth of boat and engine.
Regarding maximum speeds, the handbook for my Zodiac does give the "maximum displacement speed" (12mph on my 2.8m SIB) which I assume is the figure the insurance is looking for.

Me again,
I posed the question via email to Noble marine ins, this is the reply that was given (very quickly, I might add)

"The maximum design speed would be the manufacturers estimate of the theoretical top speed, however this figure is not taken into account unless in excess of 50 knots. If your boat has a smaller engine, you won’t be anywhere near this figure and the field can be left blank."

Hope this helps people in the future

Cheers,
Mark :O)
