How to replace a valve on 1979 13' Avon?

Hi Guys,

Quick intro since this is my first post. I'm the proud new owner of a 1979 13' ft Avon (hypalon) with removable wooden floor. It's powered by a 35HP Evinrude outboard. I'm in Torrance, CA and frequently launch out of San Pedro or Redondo Beach. So far I've converted a small flatbed trailer into a SIB trailer, completely rebuilt the engine after an overheating incident, rebuild the aft section of flooring with a stronger design since the original kept coming apart, and applied a few patches. I keep a bunch of photos of this project in the following google drive location.

My latest drama involves a broken valve. The parts are shown in the following link. The hole in the tube is about 1.25" diameter. https://photos.app.goo.gl/UkbytY9Ng3xSxGlT2

The valve body is cracked from over tightening so I have to replace the whole thing. What's the best replacement valve? Is there a how-to or video showing the recommended replacement procedure?

Thank you,
Ross-O
Torrance, CA

Looks like this may be a good approach. The proximity of the valve to the transom may make getting it flat to install the patch difficult. I may wind up putting the patch on the outside.

I would suggest replacing with the same valve . Those are very good valves.

Hi cgoing,

I didn’t realize that they were still available. Your post prompted me to take a second look. Looks like it is a Avon/Leafield A7. Thank you!

Hypalon

Be sure to get the correct adhesive/cleaner for Hypalon.

I got the same valves, doughnut shaped Hypalon mounting material and adhesives and how to video guides from NRS.
