Hydrus h6

Right then, we preordered the brand new IBF HYDRUS H6, and tested it out throughout the Clyde, inner Hebrides and around Iona and Mull. We really liked it, and are wondering what everyone else thinks of the HYDRUS line. Check out the video if you want to see the test and what comes in the box

Cheers

Good video and review. It looks a decent piece of kit, but a question for yourselves and a couple of observations after reading the spec data sheets.

Why is it "The most advance sib to hit UK markets"? Did I miss something in the video?

The overall weight of a SIB is an important factor when choosing to buy. Any idea what the various models weigh, as it doesn't appear to be in the spec sheets, or should I say I can't find it.

I am surprised that the max weight for the outboard on the 3.7 and 4.00 models is 43kg. That rules out every 15/20hp 4 stroke with the exception of the Tohatsu EFI's. Think they have made a mistake there.

Nice to hear you enjoyed mate.
I get where you’re coming from, and they are all good points, but our angle was that it’s the best out the box, standard package sib, it comes with some great features, the FRP is so rigid, and we found it much more manoeuvrable than others we’ve tried. Plus its first release, brand new technology.
Great to hear from you

>>its first release, brand new technology.

Hmmm some pudding being well over egged I reckon.

Sorry guys but it is possible to present fun content *and* retain some credibility. Sadly this video strays well away from that.

You describe this Hydrus as the most advanced SIB on the market, top of the line, unmatched in stability/strength/manoeuverability... and worse of all refer to it vastly outperforming alternatives.

None of that is true. It's a generic budget design, flat HP air floor, low pressure sausage keel, Chinese SIB with its main features over all the other brands a sporty colour, a few extra attachments and 0.5mm extra thickness on the air floor. Chucking in phrases like hydrodynamic and the constant reference to the FRP transom just reinforced this video was pure marketing.

The £550 cheaper Boatworld 320 is the same basic design and will I'm sure perform the same. Add a floor mat and put some extra D-rings/railblazers exactly where you want them and you'l still have enough dosh left over for some quality scran and a few tins.

Kind of agree some massive overhyped marketing but good video none the less Get Up

We’ve had plenty of boat world boats, and the FRP of the H6 makes a huge difference. It’s just so much sturdier, and the keel is so much more streamlined. And the extra features are really handy, loads of lashing points, really strong handles, in great places that other boats don’t have them.
The boat world 420s especially are thin, floppy and have a much less sturdy feel, they are also less practical in terms of straps, lashing pints and handles. We have had many experiences of sibs and this is the most advanced one we have tried sure.
We didn’t get payed to do this, and we bought the boat outright.
Lots of people on the internet seem to know everything, but no one seems to have put that knowledge to the test.

That's a cool SIB

Hi OYZ,

I really enjoyed watching your SIB review, what a slick boat. I loved that you guys didn't just keep it as some boring review but actually went and tested it in some crazy conditions. The amount of extra detail on the boat is one of my favourite parts and the main reason I am going to buy one right now.

Yet again, another epic vid and I can't for the next one

Yours Truly,
Ramstackers

The "streamlined" keel of the Hydrus 6 appears to have the keel board sticking out of it on either side. Not exactly streamlined is it?

It’s fibre reinforced PVC mate, and it just means that the boat is much sturdier, much stronger, and much less likely to get punctured

Compare that to any boatworld or honwave, or actually just watch the vid so you can see what it looks like properly inflated

You obviously know very little about the SIB you are reviewing and haven't done your research.

FRP - fibre reinforced plastic

It referes to the transom, not the pvc

Zodiac, Honwave, Excel have been using FRP or GRP for years.

Idk about that one coach, pretty sure that the tubes are fibre reinforced pvc as well and that’s why it’s so advanced

That’s just what we understood, could be wrong.

Like we say, it’s not an advert, we just think this boat is so much better than all the alternatives we’ve tried.

Your first post on rib.net is a ringing endorsement of this boat - so much so that you are going to "buy one right now"? Really?

Hello Trello,

This is my first time on the site as I was looking for information on inflatable boats. My Boatworld recently sank as the inflatable chambers started giving up on me after only a year. This was the first post I came across that caught my eye as I am familiar with the IBF, so I watched the video.

Honestly, if this is the attitude on RIBnet towards new comers I should have just stayed away. Clearly you have nothing else better to do
