Insurance?

Dragging the SIB down to Cornwall for a week at the end of July and intend to moor it in a tidal harbour for a week so it's ready to go every day.

The question is, who's the best company to insure it with?

I have a Honwave T40, a 20hp Mariner 4 and a bunked trailer.

Many thanks

Just insured my Sib Excel 330 & Tohatsu 9.8 for £91 for 1 year with GJW. I have used them for my Powerboat as well

Does that cover you to leave it tied up in a tidal harbour? I tried one place earlier and was just about to click buy when I noticed this as an exclusion in the small print.

I managed to get insurance from Mercia Marine where it was agreed in a clause I could leave it floating overnight on a pontoon at Salcombe for the month of June. Everyone else either declined to insure or was £100 more expensive. In the end I hauled it out every night and locked it down not for fear of theft but because of possible accidental damage by others.

Cost was approx £120 for insured sum of £4K.

On the subject of locks I used a transom clamp lock and 'Volcano' transom bolt to secure the engine and then I have a 3 metre Python Masterlock which I fed through a grab handle and the front roller thingy before looping round a steel structure of a building.

Now I'm home I also registered it with Canal & Rivers trust and stencilled the index number to the front of the starboard tube. If I sell it I'll transfer the number.

Finally I took all the removables off each night and tarpaulined it lol. I was a bit miffed one morning to find a cigarette end had burnt through the cover but I didn't find it had damaged the tube or floor thankfully.

All makes the boat less attractive there are easier pickings elsewhere hopefully.

Sure but no way for portable craft under 5m and floating overnight.

My policy is, normally kept in locked compound on a farm in use on holiday 12 times a year approximately I wouldn't leave it moored other than in a marina berth bit costly but worth the peace of mind

My SIB is with Porthcawl. £91.97 premium.

Just because something is excluded, doesn't mean you can't do it. If you leave your boat moored to a buoy overnight (for example) and the policy excludes that, you need to bear in mind that thousands of small boats are left moored to buoys and are not stolen. The exclusion is only relevant if you are unlucky enough to suffer theft or damage when the excluded circumstances apply.

Probably the biggest single risk in terms of likelihood is theft from where you store the boat.

Thanks for the replies all.

I normally keep the boat and trailer deflated/disassembled in my garage at home, but I'll be keeping it all setup and on the trailer while we're away and on a visitor mooring in the harbour while we're there. I have an outboard lock for the motor and a big thick motorbike lock and hitchlock for the trailer (being stored in a rented space elsewhere in the town).

I think i'll go ahead and purchase the policy I looked at the other day, as everything else about the cover seemed fine and I want the convenience of having it ready to go at all times - can't wait!!
