Hi all,

We are thinking of replacing our fibreglass dayboat with a SIB approx 3m


We are going to Lake Annecy in August and it looks like I would need a whole load of quallifications / insurance etc, my question is does this apply to all engine sizes or are small hp boats exempt?,

I ask as I have a 8cmh yamaha and also a 3.5 suzuki that I would be quite happy pootling around with, if not I'm just going to take my Touring Kayak though would prefer to include my wife and dog in the fun

A mate of mine lives there he has just come back to the UK and done his power boat level 2 and there now operating a 6.5 meter rib with a 200
Not sure what insurance he has but the boat is owned by another guy who lives in the Uk.
You don't need a licence for the 10hp boats that you can rent on the lake.
By the way we love the place.

Thanks for the reply Hunton69, I will be getting insurance it's just the grey area over the qualifications that's putting me off,

I presume there's a difference between hiring a boat over there and tourist's taking there's over?

Would ideally like a definate answer to this or a point in the right direction please, any helpful links?
