Launching, Studland bay?

Now I have the Bombard 380 I want to launch from the National trust Studland bay beach.
I am a member of the National trust so get the parking free, my question is do you just launch straight from the beach and do you have to pay a launch fee, or
do you have to use the slip at the far end next to the sail boats?

If you just launch anywhere on the beach do they get upset?
I have launch wheels so not a problem hopefully.

Possibly better to go to Baiter and launch there?
Again any launch fee at Baiter? Will have to pay to park I suppose.

I think it will be better to launch at Baiter, I think the car park is about £10 inc launching and car parking. However, if you have launch wheels I can't see why you can't pay for parking as a normal car as you don't have a trailer

Worth Trying Shell Bay, either watersports or sailing
Not a long journey by sea round the headland and into studland... just be very aware of the training Bank

On the Studland side, I think Shell Bay is the only place you can launch a boat with an engine and its expensive and not sure they do ad hoc launches.
The National Trust Beach at Knoll Beach has a slip but it can only be used for dinghies and non motorised boats
Nowhere else on this beach really has car/trailer access.
There are a number of very small slips/ramps on Banks Road the other side of the chain ferry on the Sandbanks peninsular which are only suitable for hand launching (and at high tide!) but are really for the windsurfers & kayaks - you may be able to get a Bombard launched on one of these with difficulty - if you can find adjacent parking.
Otherwise as Whisper says Baiter is your best bet. There is also a public slip in Swanage.
For such a large harbour there are pathetically few casual public launching spots!

Thanks for everyones help.
Looks like Baiter is the best bet, shame the parking is so expensive.

I will have a look at Swanage also but I think parking is going to be the problem there.

From Studland they charge you according to HP of engine. We launch from ocean bay water sports , Float off , float on, tow out by Charlie on the beach. On a nice day you can anchor off beach and use beach, its gorgeous. Pop around old harry and maybe spot the dolphins. Parking is ok on back roads if you are early ish. Trailer can stay on beach.

Little free public slip via 6'6" barrier in Poole near Haven caravan site. Nice run to the beach from there... I used it this may, parking free, as on road...

Just off lake drive

Pete, as mentioned further up, launch at baiter and park your car in the regular car park. I think I paid £4 for 5 hours which isn't too bad..

It's too late I allready knew that one.

We used to launch the kayaks from Lake car park which is just a little further on,found that little slip by mistake looking for the Lake pier one.

There is the restricted height barrier but should be able to unload the Sib and leave the 4x4 on the road. not many spaces but get there early I guess.
Will probably leave that one for queiter times of year, less likely to upset the locals.

Thanks for the invite.

As we are very new to Sibbing I won't risk doing the whole trip to Cowes but would love to meet up at Calshot for a little buzz round local waters.
The curry sounds good too

Not 100% sure but will definately try and make it.

I think you are right mate.

As it will be our first trip out on the 380 I want to take the easy option, especially as my wife will be with me

Is it best to stay within the harbour on first trip or is it ok to pop out and head towards Old Harry and beyond?

I think what I am saying is, does the sea state get a bit nasty going through the gap at the harbour mouth by the chain ferry?

I have VHF some safety equipment and the chart for Poole harbour and around the area so won't get lost.

Was hoping for an early start Saturday 7 maybe 8am. or earlier.

Get's scary in a small boat if you get wind and tides wrong like I did

Studland will allow up to 20hp in but slipway very exspensive and national trust don't make boats particularly welcome, that said have seen plenty of SIB's unloaded from cars inflated and away for no charge so may be ok but bit of risk, If you try that option there is access next to my beach hut No 221 to get small boats onto beach which lot of people use

I generally use Swanage slip but have trailored boat, if I had SIB as mentioned previously think Ocean bay is good option for you but bear in mind Old Harry will get lumpy on Ebbing tides. If you want easy option first time out I suggest Baiter and a cruise to Brownsea

Enjoy

If you do stay in the harbour make sure you're in the lanes when the tide is on the way out, I found out the hard way on my second outing that it does get VERY shallow!

Park at the far right, just behind the beach huts, and carry everything through, inflate and prepare and carry down the slipway, that's if you have the boat in the car. No charge, as your parking is free. See attached photo.
I will be there Sat and Sun, and will help with the carry if you need any help.

I have launched kayaks and sib, no problem off the beach at studland.
I have also used the slipway with my RIB.
The national trust are very welcoming and its a great place.

There attitude has changed in recent years.
