Leaving the boat in the water

In a week or two I've not had more than the odd wipe-off needed re seagulls... but obviously a cover can only help... with security too. Just depends of the faff fitting/removing on the water where you are.

Nowhere is totally secure so just be sure of your insurance cover... do you best to minimise the attraction... and resign to it not ruining your life if it is taken.

I'm not sure Covid will allow us to risk booking this year now but our holiday plan would have been a couple of weeks on a residential boat in a marina with SIB on the adj pontoon. Left just like my pic above in post #3 with cover on outboard. Electronics/safety kit removed but fuel tank, anchor/rope bag, paddles etc left in.

Been a possibility all my life but years ago mostly through contacts and word of mouth. With the net and Google a bit easier to find these days.

Seagoing boats that you just stay on... not allowed to go anywhere. Quite expensive but comparable to many holiday cottages and such great access to the water.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought it might be more useful to expand what we have here. I have been researching the best way for a temporary mooring in the same flavour as discussed but would like your thoughts.
There is plenty of advise regarding the longer term moorings involving equations of boat weight vs tonnes of cement and ballast or Victorian-era railway carriage wheels!
What I need is a satisfactory solution, insurance allowing, for a week long mooring in a sandy cove. Sure, should a hefty looking so'westerly blow up we'll pull her out of the water. Otherwise, I have got as far as a set-up involving 3X mushroom anchors / danforth or plough anchors / helical screws, plus chains, buoys etc. into the sand. Happy to invest as it is a regular haunt year in year out and "relatively" protected.

Insurance companies usually insist that moorings are “professionally laid” & inspected. Just sayin’

Are there other people anchoring in this cove? I can imagine you might not be too popular if others snag their anchors on your temporary mooring. Are you allowed to lay temporary moorings?

If it were me, I'd probably use three anchors connected by chain to a single ring and then a central 'riser' chain to a buoy. I'd use it for the week and then lift it so there is less or a maintenance / inspection issue.

I understand the attraction of a mooring over swinging on an anchor but it would be a bit of a faff.

Having a forum name that starts with a size and ends with a bit of anatomy puts you in a club that you may not want to be a member of.

Thanks Dave - understood, hence the caveat. I was surprised at the reduced premium this year whilst allowing for overnight mooring. Will double check the small print. Mind you, topically, the insurers will seemingly mtry and worm their way out of anything looking at the plight of small businesses with their business interruption insurance ending up in the high courts last week 🤔

Thanks GuyC. One other local on a permanent basis and the occasional visiting yacht are the only regular company. I like the idea of the simple three anchor system, removable on departure.
