Length of shifter cable for Futura Mark 3

Can someone recommend a good length for the shifter cable? Not sure how much of a loop I need.

I just got a MK III and it seems quite long. It sits on the side of my tube with a big curl in it before it runs down to the console. Without measuring its at least 6 feet and could be 8 feet. I can almost move the bench with the console to the end of the aluminum flooring however not quite to the end as the cable is definitely stretched.

8ft on mine, console feet are at the very start of the third floor panel from the transom.
