Lengthening tubes

Has anyone ever tryed to lengthening a dingy/tube by simply cutting it in half and gluing a piece of New tube between the parts?

You need two boats, cut one off at the transom and the other just after the curved bow then joint them together.

Just for clarification, you'll need to join the long bits rather than the short bits!
