Lifespan of FC470

Hi all

I recently purchased a FC470 which was manufactured in 2014 but has stored and never used.

I’m wondering whether anyone can indicated roughly how many years of use I should expect from the boat. Milpro have to me 10-15 year but not whether that’s of use or from the date of manufacture

TIA

You can get 20+ more years out of that if you maintain it properly.

Keep it covered and/or stored indoors and it can last much longer.

Take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you!

Sounds like a good approach.

Same, I just picked up an FC470. Our army is selling off all there old stock, half of it never used. Zodiac will give defence a use by date so they can simply resupply them new gear. Like yours mines lived in a box and never seen the light of day. Clean it, use some poly guard and when not in use store it out of the elements. Like the other chap said, you should get 20+ years out of them.

My 1990 still had some life.

Unfortunately, South Carolina’s intense sun combined with slow leaks eventually caused pressure differentials & the baffles to unglue internally.

Then while I was on vacation, I forgot to prop the outboard and set it up for storage. Boat deflated, and the engine weight ripped the transom off. Delaminated the attachment material on both sides (pulled the coating off the scrim).

Generally ~25 years from DOM & well maintained is a safe guideline for Hypalon. Over that, or neglected, bad stuff can happen. My 1998 Avon is currently self destructing and due for new tubes.

Thanks for the feedback and storage tips. It’ll be interesting to see how long mine lasts with a little TLC. Cheers
