Lifespan of glued pvc sibs (Zodiac futura)

Hi,

Would like to ask at what age the glue of a PVC sib is at its end of life, often.
I'm looking after a Zodiac futura mk2 4.20m.

I live in the Netherlands, Europe. So not many days of sun or heat in a year.
Have repaired an entire bottom and transom once at my cadet, so I know it's doable. But just to get a good understanding of their value in relation to age.

Thanks!

10 years is often said for Zodiacs. But if you view one and it's fine then buy, if peeling don't!

But will that prove anything like ... it has hold for 10 years so might hold 20 years as well? I gueas it's just a matter of time for all of them, so after these 10 years chances are great that it will peel soon?

It is said to look carefully at anything over 10yrs old but in truth they mostly go to nearer 15yrs in the UK before problems start... by 18yrs you can almost guarantee they will need repair though.

Just factor the possible repair into the used price you pay.

The Futura layup is somewhat complex and tedious.

I have a thread started on the process, but I have not gotten past prep yet due to summer boating season insanity.

Glue doesn't last forever, unfortunately... Only welding.

No, agree with you. But you can only buy what's available and in many countries (unlike the UK) certain SIBs are hard to find. Therefore if the boat measures up and the price is right go for it. They can be repaired if the worse happens and then you have peace of mind ahead. Having said that obviously the fresher and younger the better.

I am experiencing this at the moment the boat I have just bought is a 2002 model its starting to show signs of the glue loosing its adhesion on 2 of the tube seams and inside around the floor nothing too serious just small sections you can get your finger nail in but still requires attention also seems to exaggerate the issue if you dismantle the boat and let it down, again was a long time before I found one in my price range so you have to accept some issues.
