Don't have much experience with 2 strokes, apart from the 15hp Selva, but I hope it was my last one. Probably something to do with the particular outboard and/or gas in the carb. Even when carb was drained, while traveling on a hot day with motor wrapped with plastic bags in the boot, the gas smell was always lingering in the car. Smell was heavier on the back seats. Rainbow oil patch in the water and ringing noise also spoiled the experience. Will try to wrestle the 4 stroke till my back allows.
That'll be the residual oil in the exhaust. I love the smell but it's not ideal on a longer journey.
Yeah, both my 2 strokes are a bit smokier on first start, but settle down OK. Not quite as clean as a 4 stroke, but not too bad, especially the opti which once it has warmed up, appears smoke free visually.

If you are going slow with your 2 stroke and the wind is on your nose you don’t smell the 2 stroke at all if you turn and go slow in the other direction it will smell. Simple answer is don’t go slow 😉
Thanks! Are you describing something like this (below)? That's the kind of thing I'm thinking of making...
@Tonus
Sorry Tonus I'm not going to have time over the weekend to dig everything out to take a picture, however the pic you posted was very similar to my set up. It works well and certainly saves any back strain. If you want any info please send a PM or use Youtube as this is my last post on Ribnet.
