Haha.. They don't seem to sleep. Fingers crossed for not much rain which will help!!
Are you staying on the site where the lodges are now or the next one up? I've stayed on both and as far as I was aware the site was closing and they where putting an hotel on it?
Cheers

Go to a fishing shop and buy a midge net baseball cap. That and some smidge is all you can do.
It is meant to be wet next few days so they will be out in force.
Skin so soft used to work but they must have changed the formula last couple of years or the midge population love it now.

Skin so soft does still help, not as a repellent, but if applied thickly enough they seem unable to bite through it. Smidge is better repellent. Beware it can mark some plastics (don't spray it on your car dashboard!) However if they are really bad a net is the only way to go. Breathing in midge is unpleasant.
At the end of May though they shouldn't be too bad. They don't need a blood meal when first hatched, they breed and lay a set of eggs, then come looking for a meal to develop a second brood!
They don't even need to bite to be really unpleasant.
Not sure if anyone has tips for keeping them out your tent as that is your one area of sanctuary!

It's a good excuse to be out on the water anyway as they don't bother you as much on the water, Idoubt they will catch you at anything over 10 kts

We went to the other Loch Long at Sallachy up near the Kyle of Lochalsh last year, it was just fantastic.
Had the Loch to ourselves every day. Very quiet though not for everybody.
The Glen is owned by a Russian. He's closed the road to cars so on a mountain bike ride up the Glen we saw nobody at all in three hours.
There are two abandoned houses in perfect condition and a smaller Loch, it's a bit of a strange place.
The track continues to the Falls of Glomach ("Falls of Gloom") and it's a pretty accurate description.
Beautiful though.

Are there any campsites still open round loch long where you can take a motor home and of course launch a boat? The sites we used previously have either closed or put lodges on!

Probably to hold the tank in place?
And get some sleep Jerry! 2.30 indeed.

It's just to try to hold the fuel tank in place, it's just a stretchy cargo net for a motorcycle but the tank still moves around as there is only one d ring it the front of the boat.

Lovely part of the world. I've spent time up there with a dive club and RIBs, and with friends, and also solo with a SIB. Memories of the loch surface being so still and smooth that I could see the reflections of individual leaves on the trees on the hillside. I rowed out from Ardgarten one evening to dive "conger reef". Also drove over Rest and Be Thankful and launched onto Loch Fyne. Great part of the world.
