long or short

Hello all,I,m new to all this so please bear with me,My question is, what is the criteria for using a long or short shafted outboard.

Hi and welcome,Long and short shaft outboards are different type lengths of legs of outboard engines depending on height of the transom. Hope this helps

Transom depth 15" - Short Shaft (also referred to as Standard Shaft)
Transom depth 20" - Long Shaft
