Picture of the Mudeford slipway. Bloody cold and very windy today. Wouldn't have been pleasant out in Christchurch harbour and even less so out in the bay. Short chop, wind over tide and it's forecast the same tomorrow. The forecast for Friday is looking much better, still cold but less windy.

Ah shame about the weather Steve - looks like a nice place to launch though. I'm 40 miles down the coast from you, yeh looks better tomorrow and Saturday. Have a good one mate, enjoy!

Frustrating when the weather doesn't play ball after you've travelled and anticipated getting out.

>>>A bout of gastroenteritis tied me very much to the land!

A little tip. Wetsuit trousers with a tight ankle cuff and all is well.

Great day

Launched from Mudeford, flat calm and although it was sunny it wasn't warm, forecast for the breeze to pick up mid afternoon. Mudeford to Bournemouth, past Sandbanks towards Poole around Brownsea, stopped off at Studland for lunch. Moved onto Old Harry Rocks and towards the outskirts of Swanage, then back across the bay towards Mudeford. My thinking was a bit ambitious in terms of time, it took 4 1/2 hours incl lunch, and definitely over ambitious in terms of conditions for the return - wind with tide and a decent swell, I loved it but Diane and Isla thought differently! Haven't got a clue what distance we covered, but we used approx 10 liters so it must have been close to 35 miles.

Sounds like a good day out and I take it you’ve got rid of the self produced lower half leg warmers

I try and remember to use navionics on trips out, so we can review mileage, speed, route, mpg later. Only issue is the app is a bit battery hungry.

Although sometimes I forget to switch it off again, which can up with some strange figures on playback!

Who new the Volaire could average 32mph….it must be because I got the version

Likewise from time to time I forget to switch off my integral battery Garmin plotter when hauling out and arrive home with surprising distance and speeds recorded making the boating track/speed useless.

I must learn to use my Garmin 45CV chart plotter so I can record track, distance, speed etc. At the moment I use the chart so I know where I'm going and the depth sounder which I find invaluable. Yesterday we were in some very shallow water especially at Mudeford and around Brownsea.

Hi Tonus, going to the Southampton Boat Show today but we'll be back out on Monday.
Plan to launch from Lymington and head over to the Isle of Wight and The Needles.
Have you got out at all?

Nice - would be interested to hear how you get on launching from Southampton. I keep meaning to do a trip on the Hamble river from either Bucklers Hard or one of the marinas nearer the sea.
Yeh I get out a bit more thanks - wish it could have been earlier in the Summer. I did a week's mooring at Littlehampton and did a few river trips with the family on the Arun, so well worth doing. I did a beach launch from Felpham yesterday and spent the morning zooming about. Tried a new anchor system with a vert small Grapnel, a Scuba diver line and a pick-up buy which worked brilliantly and was dead easy!

Not launching at Southampton, just visiting the Boat Show. Been very interesting to say the least.

Launched from Lymington today, great slip, car park and facilities. Crossed the Solent to Yarmouth then travelled along the coast to the Needles. Got a surprise when I saw The Waverley, last time I saw her was between Largs and Cumbria.

Looks like the weather gods favoured your trip to the needles, well done.

The video will have to wait. The weather and conditions tomorrow are far to good to miss so we are staying another night.
Plan tomorrow, Lymington - Yarmouth - Hampstead Heritage Coast & Newtown River - Beaulieu River (if time permits) - Lymington
If anyone knows a nice stopping off point for lunch/pint I'd be grateful.

Great stuff Steve - hope you had a good one!
Crossing to Yarmouth - is there much cross traffic from boats moving along the Solent? Always wondered if it was busy there and care was needed?

Hi Tonus, there was a bit of cross traffic, nothing untoward but care and awareness is always needed.
I found the biggest problem was the 30 sailing dinghies clogging up Lymington harbour on my return. All launched at roughly the same time for what I presume was a club race, and just drifted in the non existent wind. I managed to to weave my way through the mayhem back to the slip, but the skipper of the Isle of Wight ferry was getting really pissed off with them.
