I'm sure it was a wise man who once said always have a plan B in case plan A goes tits up! Fenlander didn't put it quite so eloquently. Well today was no exception. The forecast yesterday for today was, lovely blue skies, sunshine and a light NE breeze around 13kph. The reality was 25kph gusting 30kph!
Plan A, across to the Isle of Wight out the window, plan B - Lymington to the Hamble a non starter, plan C - Mudeford to Hurst Castle couldn't even get out of Christchurch Harbour without being swamped!
So plan D it was. A nice gentle potter around Christchurch Harbour trying not to run aground on the sand banks, up to Christchurch, along the Stour to Ilford wier before returning back to Mudeford Quay for a late lunch. I've got to say what a pleasant few hours it was.
Still would have preferred the trip across to the Isle of Wight though.

Looks great Steve, sounds like a nice little trip. What's at Ilford Weir? Are there places to stop along the way?

There's nothing at Ilford wier apart from the wier, I think there is a visitor pontoon at Christchurch sailing club, but apart from that we didn't see anywhere else to stop off. It's just a nice gentle trio up the river when the conditions out at sea aren't playing ball.
