Looking at Mariner: 9.9-20Hp it might be a 1982 or an 85 but that should be a 20 C M not a 20 M.

Thanks is there a service manual that covers those years as it needs a once over. I took it out for the first time yesterday and was a pain to start and was a pain to start when I got home and tried but failed to flush it. Was planning on changing the plugs, impeller and fuel filter and see how it goes.

Have you got a picture of the whole engine ?

I have a feeling its the Yamaha based engine, which could make it a 1980.

Just found a 1981 Mariner brochure and in that year that didn't produce a 20 hp they went through from 15hp 25hp then a 30hp

Hope this helps

I'd ring a Mariner spares dealer in the UK to check. If Mariner records are anything like Yams then most of the info on the web is USA based and UK serial numbers will not tally with the right year.

Yep, its the Yamaha motor.

Mariner kept in production longer than Yamaha, from Mid 70's to Mid 80's.

I'm sure someone with be able to give you the exact year.
