Mounting ladder on Zodiac Fastroller

I'm making a ladder for my boat and was wondering if this D ring is strong enough to support my weight of roughly 200 lbs.

I plan to make one of these (line below) and connect it to the D ring on the side I will be climbing in from or should i be connecting it to the opposite D ring?

Here a video of how its used

Thanks

I'd be tempted to try & devise a way of using both D rings to spread your weight

Those d-rings should be welded, so they probably can take whatever you can throw at them.

My advice though, is to connect them to the d-ring on the OPPOSITE side of the boat from which you'll be boarding. It'll keep the d-ring at a better angle for stresses.

See I thought about this. But the easiest option to me getting back in the boat is from the rear. I use the engine gearbox fins to help myself up. Always have done and it's never damaged a engine yet.

Although if I do feel energetic I pull myself over the side.

Once you've made one and tested it. Let us know how it goes.

I had a st Croix folding stainless ladder on my last rib. I wouldn't attach it to the d ring. It's a fair amount of stress, 200lbs bouncing up and down. I'd go off the transom. Like 888 said, go across the boat. You can angle it up some from the transom emote towards the front.

Not sure I agree with everyone about pulling from the far side. Surely it greatly increases (? threefold?) the moment for rolling/tipping the boat?

If you put the ladder on the same side as it is fixed you effectively half the weight on the d ring because the tube acts as a support which is double what you have now. But you need rope protectors to prevent chafe on the tube

This would be better to fix to ( the transom pic)

I was finally able to give it a try yesterday.
I ended up mounting it to the transom using the configuration of the second picture i posted above.

It worked great, i had to play with the height of the step a bit but when i got it to where i like it there was no problem getting in the boat.

If i were to do over again i would get a wider step, something that can accommodate more of your foot. I basically just place my heel on the step which is fine but a wider step would be better.
