Mission successful. Went Sawley this afternoon. Motored up and down the spacious canal moorings there between the locks. Sadly flood lock was closed still so we couldn't go all the way down to western end of the canal where I could have done more throttle without annoying moored narrowboaters with wash. But I got about another hour and half on the engine and now have a good feel for what it can do. So next time, for the next eight hours, with run-in rules allowing half throttle with occasional blips to full, I'll be on river proper somewhere. I didn't measure the speed with my phone or anything, but it seemed to me that there was very little in it between 3/4 throttle and full throttle on that motor.

Next thing to sort is those transom wheels. The cheapo dolly method sort of worked but was a pain. Just like my back .

Went Hazelford Ferry yesterday afternoon. I have learned several things :
  1. Don't leave your oars and seats at home
  2. I.E. Make a checklist
  3. Get a funnel for in progress fuelling for integrated tank on water
  4. Make sure engine has started and OK to run before moving out into main flow (we went backwards towards the weir, despite rowing, until I got it fired up)
  5. The sooner I get those transom wheels fitted the better
  6. Other things that I forget right now

But acknowledging that so you have a slicker routine for next time is all good.
