Surfcat is around 4.2m overall, same as the thundercat. Transom is the same too, alloy tube section but he asked for it to be filled in so it’s effectively closed, plates welded over the gaps

I think the cost is the same as the thundercat, around £2000 for the boat. Mine was £1000 to take over from South Africa including shipping, customs, courier to my door etc.

Would be interested in getting a Surfcat, did you have a contact at Ceasar SA re purchasing direct.

On the engine front, I assume the guy is a commercial operator to get hold of the new 2 stroke.

Talk to Jacques Matthee, he owns Ceasar and has raced in the past, definitely know his stuff. Tell him Seumas Macleod put you in touch, here's his email - jac.ceasar@mweb.co.za
Also if you do go for one ask if you can have the box style transom instead of the low oval tube one.
We saved a bit on shipping when we got the thundercat and thunderbolt by having them shipped together.
They make a "minicat" too, which is a 3.2m thundercat which takes 25/30hp. Never tried one but I'd love a shot, not sure if a 50hp has been tried on one

Not sure how he got hold of the Yam, either he has a commercial license or knows someone who does.

Hard to see from the photo, is yours made of box section?
The oval tubes are fine, just the new transoms aren't as tall as I'd like

Looks more like the new oval tubing there, same as mine. It's alright and very strong but means the engine has to be mounted quite high above the top of the transom

Hi chaps,

re: The Thunderbolt - why did he sell it? I keep flipping between a Ribcraft rib and Thundercat/Surfcat/GRX420

Has he had the Surfcat out in the water yet?

He decided the thunderbolt wasn’t for him, got out of it too quickly I think, didn’t set it up properly. I was only out in it once but was surprised how flexible it was, I thought the floor would be a lot stiffer. Certainly didn’t feel as good I expected.

I had a surfcat before I went to thundercats, amazing boats. Very capable in rough and choppy water and incredibly comfortable. Not quite as fast as a thundercat and it definitely feels a lot more tame, but as an all round boat I’d say it’s hard to beat. If you get one go for at least 40hp, I had it first with a 30hp and although it worked fine the boat feels better balanced with a 50hp, which is what it’s designed for. Still did 34 knots with a 30hp! The whole boat weighs about 85kg, very light and easily launched on your own. Ceasar build quality is excellent too

Getting hold of a boat even though they are in SA sounds like the easy part, finding a 50hp short shaft tiller, no electrics is probably quite a challenge.

I’ve got a couple tohatsu 50’s in my shed
Doing them up at the moment, they’re ex zapcat engines, already got extended tillers, steering dampers. I’ve got them apart at the moment, both will have all new crank bearings and welded cranks. Will be for sale once I’m done
