Thanks Chipko and Croolis…..as usual really helpful info - Im in the process of looking, building a list, refining engine choices from what Id like in terms of power to what I can move - the trolley is a brilliant idea thanks. Really really appreciate the advice given and the amazing resource this forum provides as I look at posts from the past. Many thanks again

I have a honwave t32 paired with a tohatsu 6hp.
I've not been out solo yet but I get a genuine 10-11 knots with an adult passenger.
My son has a t38 with a Johnson 15hp 2stroke and easily gets upper teens mph with us both
I'm 55 and he is 33, and we're both piecework bricklayers. The t32 and 6hp is enough in and out of the van for me. I had a 9.8hp 4stroke last year and got rid after a couple of trips due to the weight. The t38 is a two man lift. It's the awkwardness of the shape

That is such a useful post. Im Kendal based and was planning to use on the Lakes mainly and weight has been a big consideration. Where did you purchase your boat and engine…was it locally. Was hoping for T38, but now realise T32 and similar engine to you is the way to go. Just wanted to be able to transport some family too. Primarily it is for me though

I got the honwave from Liverpool power boats. It was £1210 delivered.
The tohatsu was from Cambridge outboards and was £1037 delivered.
Both was delivered a couple of days after ordering.

Thanks…you’ve helped me to a conclusion….just want to see boat in the flesh to see how much space there is and isn’t. Thanks Tommy and every one else… close to buying - will pop over to Liverpool Power boats or perhaps Penine marine?

Hi Coniston, phone them first as they don't always have them on display.
I've seen a few of T32 stacked near Dan's Shack Parsons Wyke Bowness. Think the weather on Sat is supposed to be ok, so a few of them may be being used.

Thats the quandary - its always the weight and carrying it which is the concern…. 6 makes sense 9.8 Tohatsu is other thought…..its easy when in nice calm weather and straight forward slipway launch to think bigger…..so not rushing. Wife wants an electric for quiet pottering…so may do that first as keeping her interested is very important too….always things to consider - any thoughts?

Hi Coniston, no experience of electic outboards, hopefully chipko will be along and give his thoughts as he has experience of them. However I always think it's not just the weight of the OB to consider, it the battery as well.
It sounds very much as though the vast majority of your boating will be on the Lakes, if that's the case then a 6hp 4s will be more than adequate considering the speed limits, which are most definitely "policed" on Windermere. And, as you have already ordered the same sib as Tommy, you have 1st hand experience that the T32 performs well with a 6hp.

I'm fortunate to still be relatively healthy, but no doubt one day I will have to think lighter and smaller.
One thing to remember is to register your boat for Windermere.
I've also sent you a PM.

Just read this article -

https://www.epropulsion.com/post/ele...d-motor-guide/

If I was launching at Fell Foot and hoping to get to Ambleside and back, range anxiety would probably spoil the day for me.

Only limited experience but happy to share thoughts thus far.

We have two electric motors, a super tiny 4.5kg ThrustMe Kicker and a 20kg ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo, both reviewed on these threads;

ThrustMe…Seriously!
https://www.rib.net/forum/f36/thrustme-seriously-88189.html#post853146

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo
https://www.rib.net/forum/f36/epropulsion-spirit-1-0-evo-89685.html#post863552

The tiny ThrustMe Kicker we carry on board the sib in its bag as an emergency auxiliary as weighs bugger all. At power level 2 or 3 (of 6) we get 3mph and a 2hr runtime. Already saved me a long row back when the main inexplicably failed a mile out. Practically this is really only as powerful as a trolling motor, but super lightweight and compact nonetheless.

The much larger ePropulsion a far more serious bit of kit and suitable as a main. The claimed 3hp petrol equivalent is a bit misleading though. It’ll not push a sib anywhere near as fast as a 3hp petrol with both at max. Feel this is an unfair comparison as speed and runtimes of the electric at max power pretty poor. Utilising the high torque of electric motors, it’s far more efficient to run at around quarter power where speed and run times are more impressive. At 250 watt quarter power it will push our 3.5m sib, 3.4m rib and even 5m rib all at around the same speed of 4mph with a very respectable 5hrs runtime. Flat out at 1000watt only achieves 5.5mph with a pretty dire 1.25hr runtime.

Wouldn’t really be without our petrol motors, and difficult to justify the cost of electric, but must admit there is something pretty special just cruising along in virtual silence on both river and coastal waters on a nice day.
