New SIB has arrived

Hi all,

I have taken delivery of today of my first SIB.. It’s a 1994 Ex RNLI D-Class with a 2009 40hp 4 Stroke Mariner. Really want to get into some bits so after some advise on the following:

Best cleaning solution for the tubes?
Most effective way to strip and Re varnish the transom?
Advise for long term engine storage I.e does it need removing from the transom and how to best prevent damage?
Any hints and tips for my first SIB?

Thanks in advance

Matt

Welcome and what a great start, the king of SIBs and it does not get better in SIB land than that.

Fairy Power Spray is a favourite for tube cleaning together with a gentle scrubbing brush.

When I did the transom on my Y I used Scothbrites and meths. I did not really want to use a chemical stripper but you can do that. Regardless go careful near the fabric joins. Otherwise work though the grades of abrasive paper. A decent two pack varnish will work well or you can go down the frequent application of specialist oils.

And pics are obligatory please.
