New Sib requires new Outboard

Hi All,

Looking at purchasing the Mercury 20hp 4 stroke for my new Honwave T38 and wondered if I could get some recommendations for decent stockists.

I have spotted them a good 300 pounds cheaper at Cambridge Outboards and Bursleden Outboards.... Anyone used these before?

Cheers

Ive used Bursledon outboards. Brilliant service, cant fault them. They rerigged my rib and went so far as to replace all the engine decals, just to give her a fresh look. Very happy. Only thing i will say is the ramp off Swanwick road down to their yard had a monster pot hole i almost vanished down.... That was last year though so can't imagine they'll have left it!

Cant speak for cambridge outboards - someone else might be able to advise?

>>>Can't speak for cambridge outboards

A decade ago they were largely breakers of old outboards and there was a massive thread on here where so many folks never received their goods. Now these days they are major dealer approved suppliers so must have raised their game somewhat.

However my two more recent experiences (this year and 3/4yrs ago) were... Parts incorrectly listed as genuine Quicksilver but unbranded received.... and a trade my old one in for a new one outboard deal agreed with one of their staff which then had the deal moved in their favour by a couple of hundred pounds by the boss via email the evening before I was due to go over to them.... claiming his salesman had made a mistake.

You can draw your own conclusions.

Personally no matter how good they are now I'd avoid a company who climbed the tree as it were by sh1ting on customers to get where they are now. Even if they seem respectable now I doubt their grimy past if far below the surface. I'd still avoid them

Hmm that's interesting. Burlesdon (at Cabin boat yard) and Cambridge OBs share the same main director!

I have just been doing some digging and spotted that... also websites are identical.

Thanks all for the input, think I will be purchasing elsewhere.

My new little Hardy 18 was in the Cabin Boatyard when I bought it earlier this year, and I kept it there for several months before bringing to London. I didn't need any engine work doing (and they don't do Suzukis anyway), but I spoke to the guys there several times while pottering around and they seemed to be a great bunch and always busy. The previous owner of my Hardy was very happy with their work on another one of his boats.
