Oban next week (19/8) and day trips in the area

Evening all,

we are coming up Oban way on Saturday for a weeks camping at Barcaldine and bringing the Frib.

Hoping to meet up with Paul B to get a bit of local knowledge as its our first trip out in "sunny" Scotland

We are up from the 19th to 25th and hoping to get at least 2 or 3 days in on the boat.

Just wondered if anyone else was around and also any "must see" places to go, happy to drive an hour or 2 to a launch site so not just Oban based.

Thinking of Loch Shiel or Etive if the weather is a bit challenging in the Mull?

Cheers,

Paul.

Unfortunately the weather is looking crap for the next few days. Certainly not sibbing conditions,
Tuesday at the moment is looking good, so hopefully we an get out and explore some islands or lochs

Yep, Tuesday is looking like the best day all week, W/T weren't to bad but they are looking wet now.

On the bright side the rain held off whilst we pitched the tent yesterday

Having driven 500 miles with the boat on board I am determined to use it more than once though

Lol

Paul.

Managed to get out with Paul, Helen and Charlie the dog, due to the weather not being the greatest
, we sought calmer waters in loch Etive

Thanks to Paul for an amazing day out and showing us round Loch Etive
Its the one day up here that looked even possible for boating and even then when we launched the forecast 5kn wind was more like 10kn and looking pretty lively out in the Lynn of Lorn.

Really great having some local knowledge to say "lets go to Loch Etive instead" - even that got a bit lumpy at times and then we had a play in the Falls of Lora

And coming back into Tralee the wind had built up a fair old sea rolling into the beach so the last mile got quite technical (for me at least) with a ~2ft-3ft swell coming in on the port stern quarter so that was a great bit of experience to have

Few pics attached, amazed Paul has got the video edited this quickly - looks great

Lots of interesting info gleaned about the Frib and 15HP but will post that on my Frib330 thread together with some observations on how the Frib rides compared with the Honwave.

Overall, 37.1Nm, 4.06hrs elapsed, 3.13hrs moving, avg moving speed 11Kn, top speed 19Kn, fuel used ~ 16l

And Sea Dog Charlie loved it

Cheers,

Paul
