Patches on used Aerotec
Hi,
I'm a new user here and hopefully soon owner of a Bombard Aerotec 380. I have found a used one for sale in Germany 2 hours drive from me (I'm from Denmark). The boat is from 2004 and costs 1300 EUR which is approx. £1100. From pictures it seems to be in good condition but as you can see on the attached picture, there are some patches or the like on the transom. However, I have been told that it has never been repaired.
Does anybody know if these patches are supposed to be there?
I can't see them on any Aerotec pictures on the internet.
It seems as a repair in my eyes. Should I worry?
Thanks.
Kind regards,
Helge

£1100 for a 13 year old Aerotec?
I've just bought a 2 year old model from a dealer complete with genuine launch wheels for £1250.

That seems like a very strong price for a boat of that age. I don't know what supply and demand is like in your part of the world but I would expect to pay around £600 for that boat. Maybe a bit more depending on what extras it comes with, but £800 tops if it includes electric pump, launching wheels etc.
Most of the seams are welded so last very well, but the transom is glued and some people have found that it starts to come apart on boats over ten years old. It's fixable, but not trivial, so be sure you know what you're buying.

For a boat that old, I'd say it's time to peel out the transom and reglue it

Ha ha... I accept the challenge... but have to set aside 69CMW's atypical low prices he's bought Aerotecs at.
In general Aerotecs do not come on the market until 3yrs old or more. Currently a mint 3yr old example would sell privately for around £1500-£1800. That would be with all its original bits as supplied new. If there are transom wheels it does not really raise the price... but make the buy more attractive.
About the cheapest you will ever see an Aerotec as long as it holds air and floats is £400.... for that it could be up to 19yrs old.
Once they have suffered the sharp drop from around £2300/2400 new to the 3yr old value then between the 3 and 19yr old ages the price fall is quite close to a straight line.
That would plot a 13yr old example out at around £600-800 in the UK... which is exactly JK's opinion. For the middle or upper points of that 13yr old price range you would not expect any existing transom issues and it should withstand a peel test.

As a matter of interest Big Al C on here is selling his 2001 Aerotec and asking £650 which is there or thereabouts on the graph line for its age.

Ok. Thanks a lot for your replies. I don't want to take the risk so I will continue looking for another one.
I actually found another one from 2003 which has been all its life in a showroom as a demo boat. They only ask approx. £840. This is without transom wheels. Would that suffer from potential glue problems as well? Is it due to aging alone or UV exposure, etc?
Maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy a new one.
