I'll be at Ribex in a few weeks so I guess there'll be a few new ones there, but I'd prefer 2nd hand as it'll be a lower risk if the kids trash/sink it!

Trevor Hi.
I looked everywhere, and found the best bargains were in the local freeads type papers, but being based near the solent helped in that respect.
The other option is boat jumbles, which I enjoy anyway.
I didn't rush my purchase and kept an eye out for a while. However I was lucky that I ended up buying from a good friend. The engine came seperate requiring some work, and came from the ads on Rib.net.

There will be lots for sale at Beaulieu on Sunday, although they are a little more pricey than they will be at smaller local jumbles.

Good luck, if your kids enjoy it as much as mine do it will be worth it.

Nasher.

Thanks Nasher - I'd have gone to the Beaulieu boat jumble except that I'm on a Biboa Weymouth cruise this weekend. Is it possible to get up as far as Beaulieu on the river? If it is I may be able to make it on the way back to have a look round.

I'm not sure, but I think there is a bus service laid on from the Bucklers Hard area. You'd need to check.

Thanks - I hadn't even thought that there may be a shuttle! Indeed there is one:
"FREE shuttle bus from Lymington Ferry Terminal, Brockenhurst Station and Buckler's Hard running from 8am to 6pm."

Will be on crutches next 6 weeks, thus have time to read old threads. Here our Brig 300 used as a dighny on our boat trip some years ago at the archipelago sea, with the oldest kid at the helm. Managed to catch a lightning one stormy night when performed anchor exercises with the SIB. Would have ben in big trouble without it.

Here's a couple of pictures of one of my old Avons. This one is a Redseal, bought new in 1985 and still going strong. Got its first patch last year, on the floor. No motor, I just paddle it around. Use it for exploring small lakes and ponds where motors aren't practical. I really load it up with gear sometimes.
