porlock weir to portbcawl?

Looking at this one as a possible future aerotec mission. 12 miles each way so should be do able in under 1hour. Leave porlock weir just over an hour before high tid, spend an hour in porthcawl then back again.

Anyone got any local knowledge for the welsh side? am aware of the tide strength up there. also wondering how much shipping i'm going to encounter.

I'm over that way, seen very little shipping are you aiming for the marina or the beach?
The power boat club are worth contacting. They launch from the beach by the Trecco bay caravan park, http://www.porthcawljetskiclub.com

Shipping isn't usually an issue...the BIG Car transporting stuff bound for Portishead is EASY too see,slow and easily avoided..and weekends they are mostly at anchor anyway.
You probably know Porlock is best 2 hours either side of high for an easy launch.
I'd definatly recommend going for neap tides to help negate Tidal flow...and Races.

Personally I'd be thinking of going down to Lee Bay anyway if I were you

Cheers for the info, not sure whether to head for the beach or the marina, which would be easier, bearing in mind we will only be stopping for an hour? I will definitely have a co pilot on board for this one so we can wheel the boat some distance if need be. My only other question is where can we get a decent pint within striking distance of the boat? my memory of porthcawl is very hazy, last time i was there it was for a wedding party. we left early and found a club on the seafront where they only appeared to have one track playing on rotation - africa by toto. the memory and tune has unfortunately stayed with me ever since!

this is our intended route, straight across from porlock then behind nash sands then north west to porthcawl.

Marina tie up and head to town away from the "seaside amusements" bits unless there is something specific on you want to visit

Yep we did Cardiff to Lundy on Saturday for an overnighter. It was like being in a washing machine with Force 6 wind over tide all the way down. Good fun though

needed to dry out when we got their and that first pint tasted all the better for it

No, I don't think you can. Although they do have big fuel bunkers there it's not for general use.

If smaller boats get stranded due to bad weather it is possible to pay to have your boat lifted onto the Oldenberg ferry and brought back!

Sounds like hell but worth it for a pint at the Marisco! How was the pub, I didn't actually go inside when I landed the other week.
